When changing media in densely populated plate formats, including offset work on a 384-well grid, volumes in the three-digit microlitre range are common. The Transferpette S -12 with 30-300 µl covers this row by row across twelve channels and marks the upper limit of the S-12 line.

With 12 individually manufactured and tested pistons, model M12-300 covers the 30-300 µl range at an increment of 0.5 µl. Tips in the 5-300 µl range sit firmly on all channels and are removed without contact via the ejection mechanism. The common piston guidance ensures that 12 channels are no harder to operate than a single one.

Adjustment without tools

The adjustment slider sits under the label window and allows tool-free volume correction directly on the pipette body. In addition, a volume offset can be used to respond to deviating media or site conditions.

Reprocessing in the autoclave

The Transferpette S -12 is autoclavable as a complete device, 121 °C, 2 bar, holding time at least 15 minutes according to DIN EN 285, without any components having to be dismantled beforehand. On the electronic sister line, the Transferpette -12 electronic, only the unscrewable pipette shaft can be autoclaved, which is a significant difference between the mechanical and the electronic version.

Place within the Transferpette S family

The Transferpette S family includes, in addition to the 12-channel version, the variant with 8 channels (Transferpette S -8) and the single-channel line Fix and Variable for individual samples. Since the adjustment method and autoclavability are the same across the line, operation remains unchanged when switching between channel counts.

Ergonomics in series operation

With 12 pistons guided in parallel, the effort for aspirating and dispensing requires a housing that does not overtax the span of the hand. The pipette body of the Transferpette S -12 is designed for continuous use on the microtitre plate, and the finger stroke remains even across the entire 30-300 µl range. The grip section and tip cone are kept neutral in colour, and the number of channels itself is clearly legible on the housing.

Selection guide

Below it is the neighbouring variant with 20-200 µl (MPN 705930). For volumes beyond 300 µl, the single-channel line Transferpette S Variable with larger models is available. Channel count, model and adjustment method stay identical when switching between volume steps of the same line, only the test range and the corresponding tip size change. If you are unsure which range suits your protocol, base the choice on the volume you pipette most often within the series and pick the range in which this volume lies as close as possible to the upper test point.

Accuracy across the test range

Testing is carried out at three test volumes (100 %, 50 % and 10 % of the nominal volume 30-300 µl). The systematic measurement error is given as 300 µl: ± 0.8 % / 150 µl: ± 1.4 % / 30 µl: ± 4 %, the random measurement error (coefficient of variation) as 300 µl: ± 0.3 % / 150 µl: ± 0.6 % / 30 µl: ± 1.5 %. As with any air cushion pipette, the relative deviation grows towards the lower test point and is tightest at the upper test point. In practical terms, dosing close to the upper end of the nominal volume is the most reproducible, while smaller partial volumes benefit from an additional check in critical dilution series.
