Product information "Macherey-Nagel MN 85/70 BF glass fibre filter paper circles, binder-free, 0.6 µm (25–270 mm), 45 mm"
The Macherey-Nagel MN 85/70 BF glass fibre filter circles consist of borosilicate glass microfibres without binder and without cellulose. They are 0.33 mm thick, weigh 70 g/m² and have an average retention capacity of 0.6 µm. According to the data sheet, the filtration speed is 15 s and the maximum temperature is 500 °C. Macherey-Nagel states that they are suitable for gravimetric analyses.
Glass fibre filter circles without binder and without cellulose
According to the data sheet, the filter contains neither binder nor cellulose. When ignited, the filter therefore loses no mass from binder or cellulose. For this type, the data sheet also lists a migration distance of 135 to 165 mm in 10 min.
MN 85/70 BF compared with MN 85/70 and MN 85/90 BF
Compared with the MN 85/70 with binder, the BF version is thinner at 0.33 mm instead of 0.42 mm, slightly lighter at 70 instead of 73 g/m² and can withstand up to 500 °C instead of 200 °C. Retention capacity (0.6 µm) and filtration speed (15 s) are the same. Compared with the MN 85/90 BF, which has 0.5 µm, 90 g/m² and 0.51 mm, the MN 85/70 BF retains more coarsely and is thinner. If you need the finer retention capacity, use the MN 85/90 BF.
Typical applications
- Gravimetric analyses in which the filter together with the residue is dried or ignited in an oven at up to 500 °C
- Filtering off solids from hot or aggressive solutions
- Clarification filtration where no organic filter component is to get into the filtrate
- Dust filtration in air and hot exhaust gases, for which Macherey-Nagel names binder-free glass microfibre filters in general
Available diameters
13 diameters from 25 to 270 mm are available. The table lists the pack size and the manufacturer’s item number for each diameter. The funnel or filter holder on which the filter circle rests is decisive for the choice.
