IKA CBC 5 basic Refrigerated and Heating Circulator, -25 to 200 °C, 0004165000

Product information "IKA CBC 5 basic Refrigerated and Heating Circulator, -25 to 200 °C, 0004165000"

The IKA CBC 5 basic (0004165000) is a refrigerated and heating circulator for a working temperature range of -25 °C to 200 °C, with a heating power of 2,500 watts and a powerful pressure/suction pump that delivers up to 31 litres of heat transfer medium per minute. As the basic variant of the CBC 5 series, it omits the TFT display, the WiCo wireless remote control and the multi-interface of the CBC 5 control, but covers the same wide temperature span and the same heating and cooling capacity, ideal for external temperature control tasks in which a solid LED display and a powerful pump are the priority.

Wide temperature span from -25 °C to 200 °C

The heating power of 2,500 watts brings heat transfer medium up to temperature quickly even with larger volumes, while the cooling capacity ranges from 350 watts at 20 °C to 80 watts at -20 °C. At increased compressor speed (3,200 rpm) it rises to 130 watts at -20 °C and to 400 watts at 20 °C. The temperature stability according to DIN 12876 is ±0.02 kelvin at 70 °C, controlled by a PT100 working probe with a PT1000 safety probe and an additional connection for an external PT100 temperature probe. The LED display has a resolution of 0.1 kelvin and shows the working and safety temperature clearly.

Powerful pressure/suction pump for external consumers

For connecting external consumers such as jacketed reactors or glass apparatus, a pressure/suction pump is available with a maximum delivery pressure of 0.61 bar, a suction pressure of 0.45 bar and a flow rate of up to 31 litres per minute via the M16x1 connection. The fill volume of the bath is 5 to 7 litres, and the minimum bath depth is 150 millimetres. A calibration option allows the temperature display to be compared against a reference probe, relevant for processes in quality assurance that require documentation.

Safety concept to DIN 12876

The CBC 5 basic is classified according to DIN 12876 in safety class III with the marking FL and is therefore also suitable for operation with flammable heat transfer fluids in a closed external circuit. The adjustable safety circuit can be set between 0 and 260 °C, and visual and audible warning functions reliably report over-temperature or under-temperature. The high-quality insulation of the bath shortens the heating time and reduces heat input during cooling in the lower temperature range.

Compact design for the fixed laboratory workstation

With external dimensions of 275 x 690 x 490 millimetres and a weight of 45 kilograms, the CBC 5 basic is designed for stationary operation at a fixed laboratory workstation. The IP 21 degree of protection and the permissible ambient temperature range of 5 to 32 °C at up to 80 % relative humidity cover the usual laboratory conditions. Via the USB and RS 232 interfaces, the CBC 5 basic can be read out, monitored and documented via labworldsoft or NAMUR commands.

Difference from the CBC 5 control

Where the CBC 5 control, with a TFT display, detachable WiCo wireless remote control and a multi-interface for external solenoid valves, is designed for process automation and remote operation, the CBC 5 basic concentrates on the same heating and cooling capacity and the same temperature range, but with a classic LED display and without the additional automation interfaces. For applications that need neither remote control nor solenoid valve control but demand the same temperature control performance and pump power, the CBC 5 basic is therefore the leaner but functionally equivalent alternative within the CBC 5 series. Both devices share the same refrigeration technology, the same size and the same pump connection, so existing hose connections and accessories can continue to be used without adaptation when switching between the two variants.

Typical applications

With its wide temperature span and powerful pump, the CBC 5 basic is suitable for a wide variety of external temperature control tasks in the laboratory:

  • Temperature control of jacketed reactors and glass apparatus over the entire range from -25 °C to 200 °C
  • External temperature control of larger consumers thanks to a pump flow rate of up to 31 litres per minute
  • Cooling of exothermic reactions as well as heating processes up to 200 °C with one and the same device
  • Processes in research and quality control that require documentation, thanks to the calibration option and software connection via USB/RS 232
  • Operation with flammable heat transfer fluids in closed external circuits, made possible by classification in safety class III (FL) to DIN 12876
