Product information "IKA HRC 2 GREEN control Cooling & Heating Thermostat, R290, Wireless Controller, 0020128746"

The future of temperature control: IKA HRC 2 GREEN control

The IKA HRC 2 GREEN control (MPN 0020128746) marks a technological milestone in modern laboratory temperature control. This unit is far more than a simple circulation bath – it is an intelligent process system that combines the highest standards of precision, ease of use and environmental responsibility. With an operating temperature range of -20 °C to +100 °C, the HRC 2 GREEN control is the perfect solution for complex temperature control tasks in chemical synthesis, pharmaceutical drug discovery, biotechnology and materials testing. It has been specially developed to temperature-control external applications such as double-jacketed reactors, autoclaves or measuring instruments (e.g. rheometers) precisely and energy-efficiently.

Sustainability through “GREEN” technology (R290)

In an era of climate change and stricter environmental regulations (F-Gas Regulation), IKA is sending a clear message with its “GREEN” range. Instead of conventional, climate-damaging refrigerants, this thermostat uses R290 (propane). This natural refrigerant has an extremely low global warming potential (GWP) of just 3 – compared to GWP values often exceeding 1,400 for conventional synthetic refrigerants. For your laboratory, this means you are investing in future-proof technology that will not be affected by forthcoming bans and minimises your environmental footprint. But sustainability doesn’t stop there: the heart of the cooling system, the compressor, is speed-controlled. It dynamically adjusts its output to the actual cooling demand. When little cooling capacity is required, the system scales back. This not only massively reduces energy consumption, but also significantly reduces heat dissipation into the room and the noise level.

Revolutionary operation: the Wireless Controller (WiCo)

The standout feature of the ‘control’ variant is the detachable Wireless Controller (WiCo). Whilst standard thermostats require you to stand directly in front of the unit to monitor and adjust settings, the WiCo offers you maximum freedom and convenience. Thanks to state-of-the-art Bluetooth technology, you can detach the control unit from the device and control the thermostat from a distance of up to 10 metres. This offers invaluable practical benefits:

  • Safety: Control processes involving hazardous or explosive substances from a safe distance.
  • Ergonomics: Position the thermostat where it technically belongs (e.g. under the table or in the fume cupboard), whilst keeping the control unit within easy reach at your workstation.
  • Efficiency: Operate the unit with the fume cupboard window closed to save energy and ensure safety. The WiCo’s brilliant TFT display clearly shows all relevant process parameters, temperature curves and pump data, and allows for intuitive navigation through the menus.

Precision right at the process: External probe connection

A key difference from the “basic” model is the ability to control the temperature not only in the internal bath but directly in the external medium. The HRC 2 GREEN control features a connection for an external temperature probe (PT 100, included in the scope of delivery). In demanding applications, such as temperature control of a reactor, a temperature difference often arises between the thermostat and the reactor contents. By using the external probe, the control electronics automatically compensate for this difference as well as heat losses through the tubing. The result is pinpoint temperature control of your sample without dangerous overshoot.

High-performance PEEK pump for demanding hydraulic applications

To efficiently transport thermal energy to the consumer, the HRC 2 GREEN control is equipped with a high-quality pressure and suction pump made from PEEK (polyetheretherketone). This high-performance plastic is characterised by excellent chemical resistance and mechanical robustness. Like the compressor, the pump is speed-controlled. It delivers a maximum flow rate of 21 l/min and a pressure of 0.5 bar. Thanks to the variable speed, you can precisely adjust the pump pressure to suit your glassware to avoid the risk of breakage, or, if required, utilise the full power for rapid temperature changes.

Connectivity and Lab 4.0

The HRC 2 GREEN control is ready for the digital laboratory. In addition to USB and RS 232 interfaces for standard PC connection, it offers the option to programme and save complex temperature profiles and ramps directly on the unit. Together with the labworldsoft laboratory software ®, the thermostat can be integrated into automated workflows, controlled remotely and fully documented.
