Anyone working at temperatures close to 150 °C for hours or days knows the problem of evaporating bath liquid and open, unprotected bath surfaces. The IKA Compact Immersion Circulator ICC 150 lite pro 12 c (0010013244) combines the ICC 150 lite immersion circulator with a 12 litre stainless steel bath and, unlike the simple pro variant without the “c”, also supplies a matching cover and a pump connection set. The result is a ready-to-use system for temperature control tasks from room temperature to 150 °C, in which the bath surface stays protected over longer run times.

What distinguishes the “c” variant from the simple pro model

While the otherwise identical ICC 150 lite pro 12 consists only of circulator head, stainless steel bath and bath bridge, the pro 12 c variant also includes a medium cover (CS.ICC) and a pump connection set (PCS.ICC). The cover reduces evaporation of the bath liquid at higher temperatures and at the same time reduces the risk of contact with the hot bath surface, a noticeable advantage when working over longer periods close to the 150 °C upper limit. The supplied pump connection set also makes the system ready for connecting external consumers without separate procurement.

Performance data of the ICC 150 lite circulator head

The circulator head delivers a heating power of 2,000 watts and covers a working temperature range from room temperature to 150 °C. When external cooling is used, operating temperatures down to -25 °C can be reached. The temperature stability to DIN 12876 is ±0.05 kelvin, controlled by a PID controller with PT1000 working and safety probes. The integrated pressure/suction pump reaches a maximum delivery pressure of 0.3 bar, a suction pressure of 0.1 bar and a flow rate of up to 15 litres per minute. The device is therefore designed for both internal and external use.

Stainless steel bath with 12 litres volume

The supplied IB 12 pro stainless steel bath holds 12 litres, has a bath depth of at least 150 millimetres and a bath opening of 292 x 147 millimetres. The external dimensions of the complete system of circulator head, bath and bath bridge are 354 x 461 x 388 millimetres. Operation is via a membrane keypad, and the display is an LED display. The system is classified to DIN 12876 in safety class III (FL) and is therefore approved for use with flammable liquids.

Compact design with IP 21 protection class

The circulator head itself weighs 4.7 kilograms at dimensions of 135 x 303 x 180 millimetres and can be mounted directly on the bath via a clamp mounting. The IP 21 protection class and the permissible ambient temperature range of 5 to 40 °C at up to 80 % relative humidity cover the usual laboratory conditions. The device can be connected to a PC via the USB and RS 232 interfaces and documented.

Safety functions for unattended operation

Visual and audible warning functions report deviations from the set temperature, and low-level protection additionally protects the device if the liquid level in the bath drops too far. The adjustable safety circuit can be set between 0 and 160 °C and reliably switches off the heating in the event of unexpected over-temperature. Together with the supplied cover, which largely closes the bath during operation, the system is therefore also suitable for temperature control runs that are to take place overnight or without constant supervision, an aspect that would have to be assessed much more critically with open, uncovered baths and that should be taken into account when choosing between the simple pro variant and the pro 12 c.

• Temperature control of medium sample quantities in the 12 litre stainless steel bath, for example several beakers or round-bottom flasks at the same time
• Applications with increased need for contact protection, for example in practical courses or when several devices are used in parallel in confined space
• Processes with flammable heat transfer fluids in closed circuits thanks to classification in safety class III (FL) to DIN 12876
