Kern ADT 300-4 analytical balance 320 g / 0.0001 g

The Kern ADT is operated via a touchscreen: switching units or starting adjustment is done directly on the display. The analytical balance is available in three models with weighing ranges of 120 g, 220 g and 320 g; all read to 0.0001 g (0.1 mg). They feature a draught shield, an internal automatic adjustment function and a stainless steel weighing pan with a diameter of 90 mm. The menu is in English, supplemented by symbols.

Transfer weighing values without manual input

With the Windows Direct function, weighing values are transferred directly to a Windows application via the USB device port; there is no need to manually enter them. An RS-232 interface is also provided. Using the Kern Communication Protocol (KCP), the balance can be queried and remotely controlled from a computer or from CRM and ERP systems.

GLP/ISO logging records the date, time and ID number for weighing operations and calibrations; this is a built-in function of the instrument and not an external certification. According to Kern, the balance supports data integrity according to U.S. FDA 21 CFR Part 11, for example with weighing result, sample ID, user name and balance ID.

Functions for quality control and formulations

The statistics function, the peak function and checkweighing are designed for industrial and laboratory use. When checkweighing, an upper and a lower limit can be programmed; an audible and a visual signal accompany the process. Further functions include percentage determination, density determination for liquids and solids, totalising memory and net total for recipes. In unstable weighing conditions, the hold function calculates an average value.

For piece counting, 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 pieces can be selected as a reference. The minimum piece weight is 1 mg under laboratory conditions and 10 mg under standard conditions. A hook is included in the scope of delivery for below-balance weighing.

Adjustment and installation

According to the data sheet, the internal automatic adjustment system responds to a temperature deviation of 2 °C and a time interval of 4 hours. It adjusts using an internal weight and does not replace a calibration certificate, which is available separately (see below). The balance stands on adjustable foot screws with spirit levels and is designed for an ambient temperature of 15 °C to 25 °C and up to 80 % relative humidity. Fully assembled, the balance measures 207 x 318 x 360 mm (W x D x H) and weighs approx. 6 kg; the housing is made of ABS plastic.

The three models differ in their weighing range and technical specifications. The ADT 100-4 and ADT 200-4 have a reproducibility of 0.0003 g and a stabilisation time of 3 s. The ADT 300-4 weighs up to 320 g, has a reproducibility of 0.0004 g and requires 5 s. Anyone who does not need to weigh more than 220 g therefore does not need the 300-4.

Calibration

A DAkkS calibration certificate (item no. 963-101) can be ordered separately. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
