Product information "Kern CIB 6K-4 counting balance 6 kg / 0.5 g"

The Kern CIB displays the count result via the colour of the backlight and the pitch of an audible signal. Depending on the result, the display switches between too little, OK and too much; the lighting can be blue, yellow, green or red. There are four models to choose from: CIB 3K-4 (3 kg), CIB 6K-4 (6 kg), CIB 10K-3 (15 kg) and CIB 30K-3 (30 kg). Kern lists the series for workshops for people with disabilities, for particularly loud or quiet environments and for workplaces with frequently changing operators.

Colour and sound indicate the result

When portioning, dosing and sorting, counting can be supported by visual, audible or both types of signals. The visual signal is the colour of the display; the audible signal changes its frequency according to the same pattern. Those working in a loud hall use the colour, those who do not have the display in view use the sound.

Direct keys and memory

20 freely assignable direct keys call up frequently used reference weights and PRE-TARE values. In total, the balance stores 50 reference weights and PRE-TARE values. The reference piece count or a known reference weight is entered via the keypad; the automatic reference optimisation gradually improves the average unit weight. The count totalising memory adds identical counted items to the total piece count and total weight. The PRE-TARE function subtracts the known weight of a container in advance; according to Kern, this is useful for fill quantity checks.

Counting and weighing

Three displays with 18 mm high digits show weight, reference weight and total piece count side by side. At the touch of a button, the balance switches from counting mode to weighing mode, at which point it functions as a standard platform balance with the unit kg. The counting resolution is 30,000 for all models. The minimum unit weight for piece counting increases with the weighing range, from 100 mg for the CIB 3K-4 to 1 g for the CIB 30K-3 under laboratory conditions.

A comparison of four models

The CIB 3K-4 has a readability of 0.2 g and counts parts from a unit weight of 100 mg (under laboratory conditions), whilst the CIB 6K-4 has a readability of 0.5 g. Despite its name, the CIB 10K-3 has a weighing range of 15 kg and a readability of 1 g. The CIB 30K-3 weighs up to 30 kg with a readability of 2 g. The platform, housing and controls are the same across all four models; the stainless steel weighing pan measures 315 x 215 mm. According to the data sheet, the load cell has degree of protection IP65.

Rechargeable battery and mains operation

An internal lead-acid rechargeable battery (6 V, 4 Ah) is included in the scope of delivery. According to the data sheet, it lasts 160 h with the backlight off and 90 h with the backlight on and charges in 14 h. The power management switches off the backlight after 5 s; this can be switched off. The plug-in mains adaptor operates at 100 V to 240 V and 50/60 Hz; country adaptors for EU, UK and CH are included. Thanks to the rechargeable battery and the low weight of 3.6 kg to 4.0 kg, the balance can be used at several locations, according to Kern.

Adjustment

The balances are adjusted with an external class M1 weight. Kern recommends a weight equal to the weighing range for each model; for the CIB 6K-4, this is 5 kg (model table). This does not replace a calibration certificate, which is available separately (see below). According to the operating instructions, the balance should warm up for 30 min before the first weighing. A spirit level and adjustable feet are part of the equipment.

Typical applications

  • Industry and production: counting parts and checking piece counts
  • Warehouse logistics: counting on the shelf, goods-in and stock control
  • Order picking and stocktaking: reference values on direct keys
  • Quality control: portioning, dosing and sorting with colour or audible signal
  • Workshops for people with disabilities: result recognisable without looking at the numbers

The CIB 3K-4 and the CIB 6K-4 are suitable for small parts with a low unit weight, whilst the two larger models are suitable for containers and batches weighing up to 15 kg and 30 kg.
