Kern CPE 30K-3 compact counting balance 30 kg / 1 g

The Kern CPE is a compact counting balance with a Li-ion rechargeable battery, three displays and a stainless steel weighing plate. There are three models to choose from: the CPE 6K-3 weighs up to 6 kg with a readability of 0.2 g, the CPE 15K-3 up to 15 kg with a readability of 0.5 g, and the CPE 30K-3 up to 30 kg with a readability of 1 g. All three models have a counting resolution of 30,000. Kern describes the series as a compact benchtop balance for fast counting and checkweighing applications.

Which model

The three models differ in terms of their weighing range and the minimum unit weight for piece counting. It is 200 mg (CPE 6K-3), 500 mg (CPE 15K-3) and 1 g (CPE 30K-3) under laboratory conditions and 2 g, 5 g and 10 g under standard conditions. Anyone who mainly counts light small parts chooses the CPE 6K-3. The CPE 15K-3 and the CPE 30K-3 are designed for batches and containers weighing up to 15 kg or 30 kg. The stainless steel weighing pan measures 230 x 300 mm on all models. The housing of the CPE 30K-3, measuring 340 x 320 x 115 mm, is slightly larger than that of the other two, which measure 315 x 340 x 110 mm.

Counting, totalling and weighing with tolerance range

Three displays show weight, reference weight and total piece count at the same time. Weight values can be totalled. When weighing with a tolerance range (checkweighing), a visual and an audible signal supports portioning, dosing or sorting. The stabilisation time is 2 s for all models. The LCD has 20 mm high digits.

External adjustment

All models are adjusted using an external weight. There are three adjustment points to choose from; for the CPE 6K-3, these are 2 kg, 4 kg and 6 kg. The recommended class F2 weights are listed in the model table. This does not replace a calibration certificate, which is available separately (see below).

Rechargeable battery, power supply and interface

The Li-ion rechargeable battery is part of the scope of delivery. According to the data sheet, it lasts 50 h with the backlight off and 30 h with the backlight on. The plug-in mains adaptor operates at 100 V to 240 V and 50/60 Hz; adaptors for EU and UK are included. A printer for weighing reports can be connected via the standard RS-232 interface. Kern lists the rechargeable battery for shipping under UN 3481 (Li-ion, packed in the device) and states that the balance is not suitable for air transport.

Calibration

A DAkkS calibration certificate (item no. 963-128) can be ordered separately for all models. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate. Kern does not specify a conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU) for the CPE.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 2-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
