The Macherey-Nagel MN 85/70 glass fibre filter circles are the thinner and lighter alternative to the MN 85/90. Both are glass fibre filters with an organic binder for general filtration. The MN 85/70 has a thickness of 0.42 mm and weighs 73 g/m², and its average retention capacity is 0.6 µm. As with the MN 85/90, the filtration speed is 15 s and the maximum temperature is 200 °C.

The MN 85/70 therefore retains somewhat more coarsely, but is thinner and lighter. According to the data sheet, it is not faster; both types are at 15 s. If you need a retention capacity of 0.5 µm, use the MN 85/90. If 0.6 µm is sufficient, the MN 85/70 is the slimmer type.

More diameters, including 47, 50 and 100 mm

With 16 diameters from 25 to 320 mm, the choice is larger than with the MN 85/90, which has 13. In addition, 47, 50 and 100 mm are available here. The diameter depends on the funnel or filter holder.

Typical applications

The MN 85/70 is used for clarification filtration of solutions and extracts, for separating precipitates in vacuum filtration and for prefiltration of samples that would quickly clog a membrane filter. According to Macherey-Nagel, the organic binder gives the filter comparatively high mechanical stability. For higher temperatures up to 500 °C, the binder-free MN 85/70 BF is intended.
