Memmert IPP55plus Peltier-cooled incubator, 53 L, TwinDISPLAY, AutoSAFETY

Where a single temperature measurement can, in the event of a fault, pose a risk to entire sample series, the Memmert IPP55plus Peltier-cooled incubator provides additional safety: it maintains samples and cultures at temperatures ranging from 0 to +70 degrees Celsius, including well below room temperature. With an internal volume of 53 litres and the TwinDISPLAY feature, the unit is designed for applications with higher demands on redundancy, documentation and process reliability than the SingleDISPLAY base version IPP55 – for example, where cooling and incubation processes must be verifiable and documented without gaps at a later stage.

TwinDISPLAY: dual sensor system for greater reliability

Two Pt100 sensors of DIN Class A quality, measured using the 4-wire method, monitor the temperature in the IPP55plus in an interdependent manner. If one of the two sensors fails, the second automatically takes over its function without interrupting ongoing operation. In addition, the upper and lower Peltier elements can be controlled separately, allowing cooling and heating output to be distributed more precisely within the chamber than with a single Peltier circuit. This dual safeguard reduces the risk of a single sensor failure going unnoticed and jeopardising an entire batch of temperature-sensitive samples.

AutoSAFETY and full programmability

The AutoSAFETY safety function automatically tracks the setpoint within a selectable tolerance range, thereby protecting against over- and under-temperature conditions, supplemented by a freely selectable temperature selector or limiter of class TWW 3.3 or TWB 2. Users can programme, manage and transfer process data directly via Ethernet or USB using the AtmoCONTROL software included in the scope of delivery; a separate licence is not required for this, unlike with the SingleDISPLAY version, which comes with a time-limited trial version. Furthermore, only with the TwinDISPLAY version can a programmable door lock, a door-open detection system and a USB user ID stick be ordered as options, making the IPP55plus the obvious choice whenever access rights in the laboratory need to be managed in a traceable manner.

Security, door and interior

The fully insulated stainless steel door, featuring a 2-point locking mechanism and an inner glass door, allows visual inspection of the interior without disrupting the temperature through frequent opening of the outer door. In combination with the optional door-open detection, it is also possible to log how often and for how long the door was open during an experimental period – a requirement frequently stipulated for validated processes. The interior accommodates up to 4 shelves with a total load capacity of 80 kilograms – a maximum of 20 kilograms per shelf – allowing several sample series to be arranged in parallel and in a clearly organised manner. An electropolished stainless steel wire mesh shelf is included as standard; additional wire mesh shelves can be ordered as required.

Dimensions and capacity

With internal dimensions of 400 × 400 × 330 millimetres (depth reduced by 10 millimetres due to the built-in fan) and external dimensions of 585 × 784 × 514 millimetres (plus 56 millimetres for the door handle, plus 111 millimetres for the Peltier rear panel), the IPP55plus fits into the same size category as the SingleDISPLAY model IPP55. The power consumption is around 275 watts (230 V or 115 V, 50/60 Hz), the net weight is approximately 52 kilograms, and the gross weight, including packaging, is around 71 kilograms. The packaging dimensions of 730 × 950 × 670 millimetres also correspond to those of the SingleDISPLAY variant, meaning that delivery and installation can be planned in exactly the same way in advance.

Access control and data logging

As the TwinDISPLAY offers full Ethernet and USB connectivity, the supplied AtmoCONTROL software can be used not only to programme temperature profiles but also to manage the optional programmable door lock and the door-open detection feature. In combination with a USB user ID stick, it is possible to track when and by whom the chamber was opened, which is particularly useful when there are several user groups in the same laboratory. Continuous logging via both Pt100 sensors provides a complete, redundant temperature history for verification purposes with internal or external testing bodies.
