Product information "WTW SenTix Sp pH insertion electrode with stepped shaft and perforated diaphragm, S7 plug-in head, 103645"
Anyone measuring the pH of cheese, sausage, toothpaste or mayonnaise must pierce the sample with the electrode. The WTW SenTix Sp is designed for this purpose: the membrane is spear-shaped, impact-resistant according to WTW, and intended for penetration measurements in semi-solid media. The plastic shaft is stepped and ends in a narrow tip. The measuring range is 2 to 13 pH, and the sample temperature may range from 0 to 80 °C.
Stepped shaft and perforated junction
The stepped shaft, made of PPE/PS, is 65/25 mm long and has a diameter of 15/5 mm. The junction is a hole which, according to WTW, is insensitive to contamination and easy to clean. The reference electrolyte is a polymer (Referid); the electrode is low-maintenance and is not refilled. The membrane resistance is less than 400 MΩ.
S7 plug head and cable
The SenTix Sp has an S7 plug head and is supplied without a cable. Depending on the measuring instrument, one of the WTW connection cables AS/DIN (1 m, 108110), AS/DIN-3 (3 m, 108112) or AS/BNC (1 m, 108114) fits. A temperature sensor is not built in; the temperature is either entered on the measuring instrument or measured using an external sensor.
When another SenTix model fits better
For liquid samples in a beaker, the insertion electrode is not required. In such cases, the glass electrodes from the SenTix range fit, such as the SenTix 60 with an S7 plug head for pH 0 to 14 and temperatures up to 100 °C. The Sp remains the choice for semi-solid media that require penetration.
Typical applications according to WTW
- Food: bread, fish, meat, sausages, cheese, butter, margarine, fruit and vegetables
- Mayonnaise, yoghurt and quark
- Cosmetics: lotions, creams, hair gel, make-up and toothpaste
Storage and care
During measurement breaks, the electrode is immersed in reference electrolyte (KCl 3 mol/l, Ag+-free). Overnight and for longer periods, it stays in the wetting cap, filled with the same electrolyte. According to WTW, storing it in a dry state or in deionised water can cause permanent damage. If the cap has dried out, the electrode needs at least 24 hours in reference electrolyte. As with any pH electrode, strong acids and alkalis, hydrofluoric acid, organic solvents, oils, fats and proteins shorten its service life.
