Product information "Aqualabo NEON OPEN base unit without sensor, portable measuring device for digital sensors, PF-POR-C-00188"
If you already have one or more compatible Aqualabo sensors in your collection, or if you wish to monitor several parameters using a single unit, you do not need a complete set. The Aqualabo NEON OPEN base unit provides the display, memory and power supply for the open platform, without any pre-fitted sensors. Via a robust 6-pin metal connector, it automatically recognises any connected DIGISENS digital sensor, from oxygen measurement through to pH and conductivity, right up to turbidity, suspended solids and sludge level. The ABS housing is IP67-rated and stores up to 30,000 measurement points, which can be transferred wirelessly to a PC via Wi-Fi.
Open platform instead of fixed sensor assignment
Unlike the single-parameter Aqualabo NEON, whose sensor is permanently connected to the housing via a PG9 screw connection, the NEON OPEN base unit features an interchangeable connector with automatic sensor recognition. This allows a single housing to be used sequentially with different sensors, without having to purchase a separate measuring device for each parameter. All eight DIGISENS sensor variants in the NEON range are compatible: OPTOD stainless steel and titanium (oxygen), PHEHT (pH, redox, temperature), PHT (pH, temperature), C4E (conductivity, salinity), NTU (turbidity), MES5 (suspended solids) and VB5 (sludge level), each with a 3-, 7- or 15-metre cable. We stock the complete set with a pre-fitted sensor under the name Aqualabo NEON OPEN.
The additional cost compared to the single-parameter Aqualabo NEON pays off particularly when more than one parameter is being measured or a sensor needs to be replaced over time: a single base unit is sufficient to operate several sensors in succession, rather than having to purchase a completely new unit for each additional parameter. For businesses that already own one or more NEON OPEN-compatible sensors – for example, from an existing set – the base unit is the more cost-effective addition. Those who also require GLP-compliant documentation with significantly greater storage capacity and the supplied PC software will find this in the larger Aqualabo ODEON Open One or Aqualabo ODEON X.
Typical applications
The basic unit is suitable wherever different parameters arise during the course of a project or where an existing sensor is to be reused in a new housing:
- Fish farming: RAS systems, ponds, offshore cages, the aquaculture industry
- Aquariums
- Surface water and groundwater monitoring
- Municipal wastewater treatment: inlet, aeration tank, outlet
- Industrial wastewater treatment
The basic unit thus complements our range of laboratory and field measurement technology.
Battery, display and data transmission
The unit is powered by three AA alkaline batteries; readings are shown on a backlit LCD graphic display with five adjustable brightness levels and a stability indicator for the measured value. Recordings can be saved on demand or automatically at selected time intervals; the automatic switch-off function can be set to 2, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes. Without recording, a full battery charge lasts around 648 hours; with one recording per minute, it lasts up to 230 hours. Data export is carried out exclusively via Wi-Fi transfer to a PC; according to the data sheet, there is no provision for a USB or cable connection.
Maintenance and storage
The housing is designed for a storage temperature of -10 to 60 degrees Celsius; it operates between -5 and 50 degrees Celsius. No maintenance is required on the main unit itself; the sensors connected at a later stage have their own maintenance intervals depending on the type, such as replacing the DOdisk cap on the OPTOD oxygen sensor every two years or changing the pH cartridge on the PHEHT and PHT sensors. Before prolonged storage or disposal of the unit, the three alkaline batteries must be removed and disposed of separately as battery waste.

Contents
- NEON-OPEN base unit (housing with 6-pin connector), including 3 x 1.5 V alkaline batteries (type LR6)
- Laminated quick start guide
A sensor is not included with this base unit, nor are any calibration solutions or a carrying case. All three items are sensor-specific and are included with the selected sensor or the complete set.
Regulatory information
As an electrical appliance, the base unit is subject to the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG). At the end of its useful life, it must not be disposed of with household waste, but must be placed in the separate collection scheme for waste electrical and electronic equipment. The batteries must be removed beforehand and disposed of separately.
