Anyone wishing to clean large quantities of laboratory glassware, instruments or workpieces needs a basin that holds more than a tabletop unit, yet still fits on the worktop. The Bandelin SONOREX SUPER RK 1028 H offers exactly this intermediate size: a total capacity of 28 litres, a working capacity of 19 litres and a heater that brings the bath up to 80 °C. Bandelin lists this ultrasonic bath with heating as a Class I medical device in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2017/745; as such, it is suitable not only for laboratories and workshops but also for instrument reprocessing in medical and dental practices.

Heated cleaning with a uniform ultrasonic field

The 1,300-watt heater regulates the bath temperature continuously between 30 and 80 °C and switches off via the dry-run protection if the water level is too low. Warmer water dissolves fats and dried-on residues more quickly than cold water, which is why the heating function is particularly useful for soiling that comes away only slowly at room temperature. The SweepTec function automatically modulates the ultrasonic field and prevents standing waves in the tank, so that the cavitation effect also reaches the edge areas of the tank. At an operating frequency of 35 kHz, the unit achieves a peak power of 1200 watts with a nominal power of 300 watts; in addition, a pulse function can be activated to provide a brief surge of energy.

Selection guide: When is the RK 1028 H worthwhile?

When choosing a model from the SUPER-RK series, the batch size is the key factor. With a working capacity of 19 litres, the RK 1028 H is sufficient for several flasks, beakers or a larger number of small parts in a single cleaning cycle; for individual instruments or small batches, the more compact models in the range, such as the RK 100 H with a 3-litre capacity or the RK 510 H with a 9.7-litre capacity, are often sufficient. For cleaning agents that have a more corrosive effect on the standard tank, for example, when more aggressive concentrates are used frequently, the sister models RK 1028 C and RK 1028 CH are available with a welded tank made from molybdenum-alloyed stainless steel 1.4404, which is generally more resistant to chlorides than the 1.4301 material used here. The tank of the RK 1028 H is 1.0 mm thick.

The RK 1028 range and alternatives

Within the 1028 size range, the three variants differ only in terms of tank material and heating element: The RK 1028 H features the standard 1.4301 tank and a heating element; the RK 1028 C features the higher-grade 1.4404 tank without a heating element; and the RK 1028 CH combines both. Use and maintenance

To ensure consistent cleaning results, the tank should be filled to a working capacity of 19 litres, not to the total volume of 28 litres; the total volume refers to the tank filled to the brim without the items to be cleaned. To change the cleaning solution, the bath can be drained via the ball valve on the drain, specified in the data sheet as G 1/2 inch on the left-hand side of the unit. Cleaning and disinfectant concentrates for the SONOREX series are available as accessories and are not included in the scope of delivery, nor are the insert basket and lid. The fixed power cable is 2 metres long; the unit operates on either 230 V or 115 V, at 50/60 Hz in each case.
