The bimos ESD Stool is a stool with a gas spring for short periods of sitting at workstations in electrostatic protected areas (EPAs). According to the ESD declaration from bimos, the series meets the requirements of DIN EN 61340-5-1 and ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021 for use in EPAs. The declaration names models 9463E and 9461E. The ESD Stool 2 (9463E) has castors, while the ESD Stool 3 (9461E) stands on glides and has a foot ring. Both have a round seat surface 400 mm in diameter and a small aluminium star base 540 mm in diameter. The seat is available in various upholstery options, all in black.

ESD properties according to the manufacturer’s specification

bimos states a typical resistance to groundable point (Rgp) of 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms for the ESD Stool. The performance features of the ESD Stool 3 give 10⁶ ohms as the typical value. According to the declaration, the stool can dissipate charges on persons to the conductive flooring or floor mat. As standard equipment, bimos lists conductively coated steel parts and conductive comfort upholstery, and on the ESD Stool 2 also volume-conductive castors. According to the brochure, all components of the stool are designed to be conductive, from the upholstery to the castor. The ESD declaration is a manufacturer’s declaration from bimos and not a test report from an independent test laboratory.

Castors or glides with foot ring

The ESD Stool 2 rolls on soft castors for hard floors and adjusts from 450 to 650 mm. bimos recommends castors above all for places where you have to stay flexible and mobile. According to bimos, standard castors are not permitted for safety reasons above a seat height of 650 mm, which is why the castor models end there.

The ESD Stool 3 ranges from 560 to 830 mm and has large-area floor glides made of abrasion-resistant plastic. The manufacturer names glides for places where the stool has to provide support, for example for tasks requiring very high physical effort. The chrome-plated foot ring is height-adjustable and, according to bimos, provides support thanks to its wide tread surface. It suits raised tables and installations. Anyone who wants to roll at a raised workstation will find ESD seat-stop castors from bimos as an accessory. They lock under load, can be moved when the load is removed and, according to the manufacturer, are also permitted above 650 mm. According to the manufacturer, they correspond to DIN 68877 and can be retrofitted.

Seat and height adjustment

The seat surface has a diameter of 400 mm, and the comfort upholstery is 60 mm thick. The front edge is rounded, and under the seat surface an upholstery protector protects against corners and edges. The seat height is adjusted steplessly by a gas spring, which is operated with the ring release, the circumferential handle under the seat. This is possible in any seated position. According to the manufacturer, a cover protects the gas spring from dust and dirt. According to the manufacturer, the load capacity is 120 kg. On the ESD Stool, the colour ring under the seat surface is black.

ESD upholstery options

The bimos price list shows all upholstery options as ESD versions. Duotec fabric is breathable and absorbs and releases moisture. It can be cleaned with commercially available upholstery cleaners. Magic synthetic leather is PVC-free, washable and unaffected by oils and, according to the manufacturer, also resistant to commercially available disinfectants. Extremely sharp-edged objects can damage it. Skintec has a soft upholstery core and a robust, easy-care surface. According to the manufacturer, Skintec is also resistant to commercially available disinfectants, and bimos states that this resistance has been tested. Supertec consists of a micro armour on a textile backing material. According to bimos, it is cut-resistant, non-slip, breathable and easy to clean; it was developed for production environments.

Which cleaning agents and disinfectants are suitable in an individual case, also with regard to the ESD property, should be clarified before use.

bimos issues an ESD declaration, which you can download below. It names models 9463E and 9461E and the typical resistance to groundable point, but no values for individual upholstery options. If you need further proof for an ESD audit, please talk to us.

Is there a back support or armrest?
Yes, bimos names the ESD Flex support 9464E. It serves as armrest and back support at the same time and is height-adjustable by 100 mm. bimos describes it as ESD-compliant.
