Binder ED 720 Drying and Heating Oven, Avantgarde.Line with natural convection, 743 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0341

Product information "Binder ED 720 Drying and Heating Oven, Avantgarde.Line with natural convection, 743 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0341"

The Binder ED 720 is the largest model in the Avantgarde.Line ED series and is designed for very large batches that are nevertheless to be dried, sterilised or heat-treated without active air circulation inside the chamber. With a usable volume of 743 litres and a temperature range from 5 °C above room temperature up to 300 °C, it offers the largest internal chamber of the entire ED series, whilst continuing to operate exclusively on natural convection. Where larger quantities of sensitive or lightweight samples need to be processed without being disturbed by air turbulence, the ED 720 represents the logical continuation of the ED principle in the largest chamber size available. Instead of operating several smaller ED units in parallel, the ED 720 allows an entire series of batches to be processed within a single, generously sized interior. This not only reduces the space required in the laboratory or production hall, but also simplifies process monitoring, as only one unit needs to be monitored instead of several cabinets running in parallel.

Large chamber, controlled heating

With an interior of this size, it naturally takes longer for the heat to distribute evenly: the heating time to 150 °C for the ED 720 is around 85 minutes. The spatial temperature deviation at this value is 3.2 ± K, and the temporal deviation is 0.8 ± K. Energy consumption is 380 Wh/h (100 °C) and 700 Wh/h (150 °C) respectively and, according to the manufacturer, is up to 30 per cent lower than that of standard devices of a comparable size on the market, thanks to APT.line technology. For processes where particularly quiet heating with minimal air movement is more important than a short heating-up time, this trade-off is deliberately accepted. Anyone who regularly processes large quantities of sensitive samples will factor the longer heating-up time into the process workflow accordingly and, in return, benefit from gentle, uniform heat distribution without air turbulence throughout the entire interior.

Operation, Documentation and Safety

The ED 720 is controlled via a controller with an LCD display; the exhaust air flap can be adjusted electromechanically. A USB port enables the recording of process data; in addition, a programme memory is available, allowing recurring drying or sterilisation cycles to be stored without having to reset them each time. The unit can be integrated into the laboratory network via the Ethernet interface; the mains connection is via a Euro plug (Type C). An integrated Class 2 temperature selector limiter in accordance with DIN 12880, featuring a visual alarm, provides additional safeguards for unattended process runs – which is particularly relevant given the chamber volume of 743 litres and the correspondingly high value of goods per batch. Operation is further enhanced by an ergonomic handle design on the large, heavy door. Particularly with a unit of this size, USB data logging facilitates the comprehensive documentation of temperature profiles – for instance, when process records are required for internal quality assurance or audits – without the need to purchase a separate data logger system.

Power rating and installation

As the largest model in the series, the ED 720 is designed for 400 V three-phase current and has a rated power of 4.1 kW. With external dimensions of 1,165 x 870 x 1,590 mm and a unit weight of 169 kg, it is designed as a free-standing unit and should be taken into account when planning the installation, particularly with regard to door swing range, floor load capacity and access to the three-phase power supply. With a height of 1,590 mm, the unit reaches head height; it is therefore worth checking the room height and delivery routes at the installation site in advance.

Typical applications

With a capacity of 743 litres, the ED 720 is suitable for applications where very large batch quantities need to be processed at once, whilst still prioritising smooth, low-turbulence heat distribution – for example, when several batch series are to be processed in quick succession and the drying cabinet thus becomes the central bottleneck in the process flow.

  • Drying very large quantities of laboratory glassware, components or packaging materials
  • Heat treatment of large batches of materials in quality assurance
  • Sterilisation processes for large batches in research and industry
  • Central drying cabinet for laboratories and production areas with high throughput

Two chrome-plated insert racks are included as standard, tailored to the large interior of this model.
