Binder FED 115 drying and heating oven, Avantgarde.Line with forced air circulation and extended timing functions, 116 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0293

Product information "Binder FED 115 drying and heating oven, Avantgarde.Line with forced air circulation and extended timing functions, 116 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0293"

The Binder FED 115 is the medium-sized model in the Avantgarde.Line FED series and, with a usable volume of 116 litres, offers greater capacity than the FED 56 without taking up as much floor space as the FED 260. The temperature range extends from 10 °C, through ambient temperature, up to 300 °C. Like the entire FED range, it features a controller with an LCD display and advanced timing functions, allowing drying and sterilisation processes to be programmed, repeated and documented, rather than having to set each run manually each time. For laboratories that are outgrowing the smaller FED 56 due to an increasing sample volume but do not yet require a floor-standing unit, the FED 115 fills this gap perfectly as a versatile benchtop unit for daily laboratory routines.

Uniform air circulation in a medium-sized chamber

An adjustable fan, combined with APT.line technology, ensures uniform temperature distribution throughout the entire interior. At 150 °C, the FED 115 achieves a spatial temperature deviation of 1.2 ± K and a temporal deviation of 0.3 ± K, thus offering even slightly better spatial homogeneity than the smaller FED 56. The heating time to 150 °C is 18 minutes. With an air change rate of 32 times per hour at 100 °C, the larger chamber is heated evenly despite the relatively lower air flow rate, without any pockets of moisture forming in the load. Compared with the FED 56, with its smaller chamber and correspondingly higher air change rate of 80 per hour, a typical pattern of larger recirculating chambers is evident here: whilst the absolute air flow rate increases with chamber size, the number of air changes per hour decreases because the same volume of air must flow through a larger internal space.

Programming and process documentation

Recurring drying or sterilisation cycles can be stored in the programme memory and retrieved identically as required. The Ethernet interface integrates the unit into the laboratory network, whilst a USB port also enables process data to be recorded directly on the unit, for example for temperature verification in quality assurance. These features distinguish the FED 115 from the simpler FD series of the same size, which, whilst using the same chamber and the same recirculating air technology, does not include the advanced timing functions or data logging. Whereas a simple timer is sufficient in the FD series, the FED 115 is aimed at users who need to provide verifiable evidence of processes over a longer period, for example in the context of internal quality requirements or recurring audits.

Operation and features in everyday laboratory use

The exhaust air flap is controlled electromechanically and can be precisely adjusted to suit the respective process. With a sound pressure level of 43 dB(A) and energy consumption of 215 Wh/h (100 °C) or 340 Wh/h (150 °C), the unit is also suitable for continuous operation in everyday laboratory use, without the operating noise being perceived as a disturbance in a shared laboratory space. Two chrome-plated insert grids are included as standard; the housing is stackable and features an ergonomic handle design. The mains connection is via a Euro plug (Type C); the unit is also available in a 120 V version, for example for locations outside Europe with a different mains voltage.

Typical applications

With a capacity of 116 litres, the FED 115 is suitable for laboratories that regularly need to dry or sterilise larger quantities of glassware or sample material without requiring a floor-standing unit such as the FED 260, whilst relying on programmable, documented procedures. For example, a sterilisation programme for a specific set of glassware can be set up once and then recalled at any time without modification, regardless of who is currently operating the cabinet.

  • Time-controlled drying of larger quantities of laboratory glassware and sample material
  • Sterilisation processes with temperature profiles subject to documentation requirements
  • Heat treatment of medium-sized batches according to a pre-set programme
  • Routine operation in laboratories with changing users and varying programme specifications
  • Supplementary unit alongside a larger FED or FD drying cabinet for parallel processing runs

With external dimensions of 710 x 605 x 705 mm and a weight of 54 kg, the FED 115 can be set up on either a sturdy workbench or a trolley, making it suitable for use at different locations within a laboratory.
