Product information "Binder FED 260 drying and heating oven, Avantgarde.Line with forced-air circulation and extended timing functions, 259 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0299"
The Binder FED 260 is the first floor-standing model in the Avantgarde.Line FED series and combines a generous internal capacity of 259 litres with the advanced timing functions for which the FED series is renowned. The usable temperature range extends from 10 °C, through ambient temperature, up to 300 °C. Rather than having to set processes manually each time, drying, sterilisation or heat treatment cycles can be programmed, stored in the programme memory and tracked via the integrated data logging system – a feature that is particularly relevant for larger, higher-value batches. Anyone who has previously worked with the smaller FED 115 and regularly needs to process larger quantities will find the same operating logic and the same programmability in the FED 260, but with a significantly larger internal chamber.
Uniform air circulation in the larger interior
An adjustable fan, in conjunction with APT.line technology, ensures homogeneous temperature distribution throughout the entire chamber. At 150 °C, the FED 260 achieves a spatial temperature deviation of 1.6 ± K and a temporal deviation of 0.4 ± K. The heating time to 150 °C is 19 minutes; after the door is opened for 30 seconds, the setpoint temperature is reached again after around 5 minutes. With an air change rate of 9 times per hour at 100 °C, the hourly air flow rate is lower than that of the smaller FED models; given a chamber volume of 259 litres, this corresponds to the standard physics of larger recirculating chambers whilst still ensuring temperature uniformity. The recovery time of around 5 minutes following a brief door opening also demonstrates that, even with this larger internal chamber, routine loading or removal of samples has only a minor impact on the ongoing process.
Programming and process documentation
Recurring sequences can be stored in the programme memory and repeated identically; the Ethernet interface integrates the unit into the laboratory network, whilst a USB port also enables process data to be recorded directly on the unit. These features distinguish the FED 260 from the simpler FD series of the same size, which, whilst using the same chamber and the same recirculating air technology, does not include advanced timing functions or data recording. With a chamber size already used for larger, often more cost-intensive batches, the additional process reliability provided by documented temperature profiles is particularly beneficial, for example when a single process run involves several racks full of sample material simultaneously.
Operation, connections and features
The exhaust air flap is controlled electromechanically and can be precisely adjusted to the specific process. With a sound pressure level of 43 dB(A) and energy consumption of 245 Wh/h (100 °C) or 410 Wh/h (150 °C), the unit is also suitable for continuous operation in everyday laboratory use, without the operating noise being perceived as a nuisance. Two chrome-plated insertion grilles are included as standard, complemented by an ergonomic handle design on the door. The FED 260 is available either with 230 V (2.3 kW) or 240 V (2.5 kW); the mains connection is via a Euro plug (Type C). This choice of voltage makes the unit suitable for use in locations outside the standard 230 V mains supply, without compromising on the interior space or the control system.
Typical applications
With a capacity of 259 litres, the FED 260 is suitable for larger batches where there is still a need for programmable, documented drying or sterilisation processes – for example, when large quantities of sample material or laboratory glassware need to be processed regularly according to an identical time and temperature profile, and the results must remain comparable across multiple cycles.
- Time-controlled drying of larger quantities of laboratory glassware and sample material
- Sterilisation processes for larger batches with temperature profiles subject to documentation requirements
- Heat treatment of material samples in quality assurance according to a pre-set programme
- Routine operation in industrial and research laboratories with higher throughput and a requirement for documentation
- Retrofitting as a larger unit alongside an existing FED 56 or FED 115
With external dimensions of 810 x 760 x 940 mm and a weight of 85 kg, the FED 260 is designed as a free-standing unit and therefore requires a fixed installation location with access to a mains power supply. The two chrome-plated insert racks supplied as standard allow the chamber to be divided for different batches or sample types within the same process run.
