Binder FED 56 drying and heating oven, Avantgarde.Line with forced air circulation and extended timing functions, 60 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0295

Product information "Binder FED 56 drying and heating oven, Avantgarde.Line with forced air circulation and extended timing functions, 60 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0295"

The Binder FED 56 is a compact drying and heating oven with forced convection from the Avantgarde.Line FED series, which stands out from the simpler FD series thanks to its advanced timing functions and more comprehensive process documentation. With a 60-litre usable volume and a temperature range from 10 °C above ambient temperature up to 300 °C, it is suitable for daily laboratory routines as well as for drying and sterilisation processes that need to run reproducibly according to a schedule without the need for manual supervision. As the smallest model in the FED range, it fits on the workbench even where space on the laboratory bench is limited, without compromising on ease of control or process documentation.

Rapid heating thanks to a powerful fan

An adjustable fan, in combination with APT.line technology, ensures uniform temperature distribution throughout the entire interior. At 150 °C, the FED 56 achieves a spatial temperature deviation of 1.4 ± K and a temporal deviation of 0.3 ± K. The heating time to 150 °C is just 15 minutes; after the door has been open for 30 seconds, the setpoint temperature is reached again after around 4 minutes. With an air change rate of 80 times per hour at 100 °C, rapid, uniform drying is achieved even with a dense load, without moisture accumulating in the corners of the chamber – a factor that is particularly relevant for smaller chamber volumes with a denser load.

Programming and process documentation

Unlike the simpler FD series, the FED 56 features a controller with an LCD display and extended timing functions: drying or sterilisation sequences can be set as programmes and stored in the programme memory, so that recurring processes do not have to be reset each time. The device can be integrated into the laboratory network via the Ethernet interface, whilst a USB port also enables process data to be recorded directly on the device. This combination of timer, programme memory and data logging makes the FED 56 the ideal choice when processes not only need to be carried out but also documented in a traceable manner.

Difference from the FD series

Anyone looking for the smallest model in the Avantgarde.Line range but who does not require advanced timing functions will find the FD series to be a simpler alternative of the same size. The FED 56, on the other hand, is specifically designed for applications where processes need to be programmed, repeated and documented, such as in series of tests with an identical temperature profile, or when several users share the same cabinet for different, pre-programmed sequences. The premium over the FD series is therefore not due to greater capacity or higher temperature accuracy, but to the additional control and documentation technology, which quickly pays for itself in day-to-day laboratory work where such requirements arise.

Operation and features in everyday laboratory use

The exhaust air flap is controlled electromechanically and can thus be precisely adjusted to the respective drying or sterilisation process. With a sound pressure level of 43 dB(A) and energy consumption of 180 Wh/h (100 °C) or 290 Wh/h (150 °C), the unit is also suitable for continuous operation in everyday laboratory use. Two chrome-plated insert grids are included as standard; the housing is stackable and features an ergonomic handle design, which facilitates handling in everyday laboratory use. The mains connection is via a Euro plug (Type C); the unit is also available in a 120 V version, for example for locations with a different mains voltage.

Typical applications

For laboratories that regularly need to dry or sterilise small to medium quantities of glassware or sample material according to a fixed schedule, the FED 56 combines short heating times with a compact footprint and the ability to programme and document processes. For example, a recurring drying cycle for glassware can be set up once and then repeated identically at any time via the programme memory, without having to manually reset the temperature and time.

  • Time-controlled drying of laboratory glassware and sample material in routine laboratory work
  • Sterilisation processes with temperature profiles subject to documentation requirements
  • Rapid heat treatment of small to medium-sized batches according to a stored programme
  • Supplementary unit to larger drying and heating cabinets for parallel process runs

With external dimensions of 560 x 565 x 625 mm and a weight of 39 kg, the FED 56 remains a compact benchtop unit despite its additional control technology, and can be easily set up on a standard laboratory workbench.
