Product information "Binder FED 720 drying and heating oven, Avantgarde.Line with forced air circulation and extended timing functions, 741 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0301"
The Binder FED 720 is the largest model in the Avantgarde.Line FED series and combines the largest available FED interior, with a usable volume of 741 litres, with the series’ advanced timing functions. The temperature range extends from 12 °C through ambient temperature up to 300 °C, the highest lower limit within the entire FED range. Rather than manually monitoring very large batches, drying, sterilisation or heat treatment processes can be programmed, stored in the programme memory and fully documented via the integrated data logging system – which is particularly important for a chamber of this size and the correspondingly high value of goods per batch. Where previously several smaller FED or FD units ran in parallel to accommodate large quantities, the FED 720, with its large, programmable interior, takes on this task in a single, centrally controlled unit.
Uniform air circulation in the largest FED chamber
An adjustable fan, in conjunction with APT.line technology, ensures the most homogeneous temperature distribution possible within the large interior. At 150 °C, the FED 720 achieves a spatial temperature deviation of 2.0 ± K and a temporal deviation of 0.6 ± K. The heating-up time to 150 °C is approximately 25 minutes; after the door has been open for 30 seconds, the setpoint temperature is reached again after approximately 6 minutes. With an air change rate of 5 times per hour at 100 °C, the hourly air flow rate is lower than that of the smaller FED models, which is consistent with the standard physics of large forced-air chambers whilst still ensuring temperature uniformity. Compared with the identically dimensioned ED 720 without forced air circulation (heating time around 85 minutes), this model also clearly demonstrates the time savings offered by forced air circulation. For a chamber of this size, this difference can determine the number of batches that can actually be processed in a single working day.
Programming, interfaces and safety
The controller, featuring an LCD display and advanced timing functions, allows processes to be programmed and permanently stored in the programme memory, so that recurring drying or sterilisation cycles do not have to be reset each time. The unit can be integrated into the laboratory network via the Ethernet interface or, via an additional USB port, process data can be recorded directly on the unit. An integrated Class 2 temperature selector limiter in accordance with DIN 12880, featuring a visual alarm, provides additional safety for unattended process runs, such as during heat treatments overnight or at weekends. Operation is further enhanced by an ergonomic handle design on the large, heavy door, as well as an electromechanically controlled exhaust air flap that can be precisely adjusted to suit the respective process.
Power rating and installation
As the largest model in the FED series, the FED 720 is available with either 400 V three-phase power or 208 V three-phase power at a rated power of 4.5 kW, making it suitable for use even at sites with differing mains voltages. With external dimensions of 1,165 x 870 x 1,590 mm and a unit weight of 166 kg, it is designed as a free-standing unit and should be taken into account when planning the installation, particularly with regard to the door swing range, floor load, room height and access to the three-phase power supply. With a height of 1,590 mm, the unit reaches head height; it is therefore worth checking the room height and delivery routes to the installation site in advance.
Typical areas of application
As the largest unit in the FED series, the FED 720 is designed for applications where very large batches are regularly processed. With a capacity of 741 litres, the FED 720 is suitable for very large batches where both rapid heating via forced air circulation and programmable, documented process sequences are required – for example, when several batch series are to be processed in quick succession and a reproducible time and temperature profile must be maintained to ensure that the results remain comparable between individual runs.
- Time-controlled drying of very large quantities of laboratory glassware, components or packaging materials
- Sterilisation processes for large batches with temperature profiles subject to documentation requirements
- Heat treatment of large batches of materials in quality assurance according to a pre-set programme
- Central, programmable drying oven for laboratories and production areas with high throughput
Two chrome-plated insert racks are supplied as standard; these are designed to fit the large interior and allow the chamber to be divided for different batches or sample types within the same process run.
