Product information "Binder KB 1060 refrigerated incubator, 1,070 l usable volume, temperature range 0 to 70 °C, 9020-0476"
The Binder KB 1060 is the largest model in the KB series and, with a useful volume of 1,070 litres and a temperature range of 0 °C to 70 °C, offers space for very large quantities of samples. Two separate inner and outer doors further divide the large interior space, allowing series of samples to be stored or removed separately without exposing the entire interior to the outside air each time. This makes the KB 1060 particularly suitable for laboratories with a high, ongoing requirement for temperature-controlled storage capacity.
Compressor cooling with climate-neutral refrigerant R-600a
The KB 1060 operates with an inverter chiller and the climate-neutral refrigerant R-600a. At 37 °C, the spatial temperature deviation is ±0.2 K, the temporal deviation is ±0.1 K, and the maximum heat compensation is 640 W. The patented APT.line preheating chamber technology channels the air into the interior via the outer walls on both sides, ensuring a uniform temperature distribution even when fully loaded. After the door has been open for 30 seconds, the setpoint temperature of 37 °C is reached again after approximately 3 minutes; energy consumption is 260 Wh/h at 37 °C, and the sound pressure level at 25 °C is 52 dB(A).
Typical applications
Refrigerated incubators such as the KB 1060 are used wherever samples or cultures need to be maintained at a reproducible temperature below or close to room temperature; for this size of unit, this is particularly the case when very large quantities need to be managed simultaneously. Typical applications:
- Microbiological incubation of extensive sample series in bacterial, yeast and fungal cultivation
- Sterility tests and bacterial count determination in food analysis with very high sample throughput
- Environmental monitoring and water analysis in pharmaceutical quality control
- Centralised sample storage as a programmable ‘weekend’ refrigerator for unattended periods
- Research institutions and testing laboratories with numerous test series running in parallel and a consistently high capacity requirement
Features and durability in everyday laboratory use
The interior of the KB 1060 is made entirely of stainless steel; the two inner doors are made of metal-oxide-coated safety glass and allow visual inspection of the samples without having to open the outer doors. A door heater prevents condensation from forming. Two stainless steel shelf racks are included as standard; if required, the interior can be expanded to accommodate up to 16 shelf racks, each with a load capacity of 40 kg, with a maximum total load of 200 kg. A feed-through with an 80 x 45 mm opening and a silicone plug allows external sensor or measurement cables to be fed in. To ensure process reliability, an independent Class 3.3 temperature selector monitor in accordance with DIN 12880, featuring visual and audible alarms, is integrated; an internal data logger records the measured values and can be read out via USB and Ethernet. A device self-test enables a comprehensive status analysis, and thanks to the simple programming of a second temperature setpoint, the KB 1060 can automatically switch to a lower hold temperature. A hot-air disinfection routine also supports the cleaning of the interior between test runs.

LED plant light for the large size 1060
The KB 1060 can also be upgraded into a plant growth chamber with the Binder LED plant light module (8012-2439). At full light output, size 1060 reaches a PAR photon flux density of 880 µmol/m²/s at 25 cm, 610 µmol/m²/s at 50 cm and 480 µmol/m²/s at a distance of 75 cm, the lowest value in the KB series because the light is distributed across the larger chamber. The temperature range narrows to 10 °C to 50 °C during light operation, humidity control is not available on this series, and an ICH or CO2 module is not available for the standard KB series. A shelf set with U-rails for the light strips carries item number 8012-2392; the module is fitted on site by the customer or a service partner.
The modules are accessories and not included with the chamber. You will find them with prices under "Matching modules" on this page; more on our Binder page.
Customised requirements & procurement service
Original accessories are available for the KB 1060, such as additional insert racks, flexible silicone feed-throughs in further sizes for external sensors, or the APT-COM management software for connection to a data network. Calibration certificates and maintenance contracts can also be arranged if required.
