Binder KBECO 400 refrigerated incubator with Peltier technology, 400 l, 230 V, 9020-0465

Product information "Binder KBECO 400 refrigerated incubator with Peltier technology, 400 l, 230 V, 9020-0465"

As soon as larger batches need to be temperature-controlled simultaneously during sample preparation or quality control, a compact refrigerated incubator quickly reaches its limits. With a usable volume of 400 litres, the Binder KBECO 400 refrigerated incubator offers significantly more capacity than the smaller KBECO 240 model, whilst continuing to operate refrigerant-free using Peltier technology across the entire temperature range from 0 °C to +70 °C. This makes it a practical solution for laboratories that need to accommodate a larger sample volume without having to switch to a high-maintenance compressor-based refrigerator.

More capacity, same Peltier efficiency

The operating principle remains unchanged even in the 400-litre model: a Peltier module with patented heat dissipation handles the cooling instead of a conventional compressor refrigeration cycle. This significantly reduces maintenance requirements and operating noise – an advantage that carries even greater weight in a busy laboratory setting with a larger unit such as the KBECO 400 than with smaller models. At a maximum of 28 °C below ambient temperature, the KBECO 400 reliably achieves even lower setpoint temperatures, supported by APT.line pre-heating chamber technology for uniform air circulation within the larger interior.

Features for laboratory operation with higher sample throughput

The inner chamber is made entirely of stainless steel, whilst the inner door, made of safety glass, allows visual inspection of the samples without having to open the door and disrupt the temperature profile. Two stainless steel sample racks are included as standard; if required, the capacity of the larger interior can be expanded accordingly. An adjustable anti-condensation system and a feed-through with a silicone plug (Ø 30 mm) for external sensors or cables complete the equipment.

Documentation for GLP-compliant processes

Temperature, additional information and alarms are shown on an LCD display. The internal data logger continuously records measured values and can be downloaded in an open format via USB, which is useful for the complete documentation of longer incubation or storage runs. A device self-test provides a comprehensive status analysis, whilst the Ethernet interface enables integration into the laboratory infrastructure, for example for centralised temperature monitoring across multiple devices.

Typical applications

With a capacity of 400 litres, the KBECO 400 is suitable for laboratories that regularly need to incubate or store larger sample volumes or multiple test series in parallel at below room temperature. In pharmaceutical quality assurance, this size is frequently used to maintain the temperature of several parallel stability batches simultaneously; in microbiology, larger culture series can be accommodated in a single unit rather than being distributed across several smaller refrigerated incubators. For research laboratories with a growing sample volume, the 400-litre model is also often the more practical first step towards the next capacity level in the KBECO series.

  • Parallel stability testing with a higher sample throughput in pharmaceutical QC
  • Incubation of larger culture batches in microbiology
  • Refrigerated incubation for research laboratories with increasing sample volumes
  • Refrigerant-free replacement for several smaller refrigeration units

Selection guide: choosing the right size

The KBECO series comprises four sizes ranging from 247 to 1,020 litres, each featuring refrigerant-free Peltier cooling within the temperature range of 0 °C to +70 °C. The following overview compares usable volumes and external dimensions.

KBECO 240247 l925 x 796 x 1,461 mm
KBECO 400400 l925 × 796 × 1,946 mm
KBECO 720700 l1,250 x 885 x 1,925 mm
KBECO 10201,020 l1,250 x 1,149 x 1,925 mm

With a capacity of 400 litres, the KBECO 400 offers significantly more capacity than the smallest model. For those requiring even greater volumes, the Binder KBECO 720 refrigerated incubator, with a capacity of 700 litres, represents the next step up in the series.

Differences from the neighbouring series

Those who prefer conventional compressor cooling to Peltier technology will find the Binder KB 470 refrigerated incubator – a unit from the KB series with a similar usable volume, using the R-600a refrigerant and without the limitation to a specific temperature differential from ambient temperature typical of Peltier units. If the temperature range of 0 to 70 °C is insufficient, the KB PRO series with compressor technology covers an extended range from –20 °C to +100 °C. Within the Peltier family, the KT series complements the range with heating applications up to 100 °C, albeit in significantly smaller sizes up to a maximum of 163 litres.

Frequently asked questions before purchase

How does the power consumption of the KBECO 400 differ from that of the smaller model?
The KBECO 400 has a connected load of 1.2 kW, compared with 0.9 kW for the smaller KBECO 240, due to the larger volume to be cooled.

What interfaces does the KBECO 400 offer for data logging?
An internal data logger records measured values in an open format, which can be downloaded via USB; in addition, an Ethernet interface enables integration into the laboratory infrastructure.

How large is the feed-through for external sensors?
A 30 mm diameter feed-through with a silicone plug allows external probes or cables to be inserted without compromising the airtightness of the interior.
