Product information "Binder KBF PRO 130 Constant Climate Chamber, −20 °C to +100 °C, 10 % to 98 % RH, 127 l, 9020-0439"
Material tests that go beyond the standard pharmaceutical stability range – such as tests close to freezing point or at high temperatures – require a climatic chamber with an extended control range rather than a simple storage chamber. With a temperature range of −20 °C to +100 °C and relative humidity of 10 % to 98 %, the Binder KBF PRO 130 covers a significantly broader spectrum than the standard series, whilst offering a compact 127 litres of usable volume. For laboratories that, in addition to stability tests, also occasionally carry out special tests under more extreme conditions, this is a space-saving alternative to two separate units.
The Binder KBF PRO 130 constant-climate chamber is part of Binder’s KBF PRO series and specialises in the combined control of temperature and relative humidity. The extended temperature range from −20 °C to +100 °C, as well as humidity control from 10 °C to 90 °C at 10 % to 98 % RH, go well beyond the standard range of the KBF series. This means that, in addition to classic ICH stability profiles, the KBF PRO 130 can also handle all kinds of material testing, for example at temperatures close to freezing point or under THB (Temperature Humidity Bias) conditions at +85 °C and 85 per cent relative humidity. The light modules for photostability and plant growth are available from size 260 upwards; they are not intended for size 130.
Technical specifications at a glance
Control is handled by a touchscreen controller with time-segment and real-time programming via an ergonomically adjustable control terminal. A capacitive humidity sensor with rapid-response steam humidification ensures precise humidity control across the entire specified range. Safety features include an integrated Class 3.3 temperature selector monitor in accordance with DIN 12880, featuring visual and audible alarms, as well as a signal triangle with an illuminated status indicator. Ethernet and USB interfaces, as well as an internal data logger with an open format, facilitate documentation; the APT-COM Basic Edition software is included as standard. If required, the documentation can be supplemented with additional software modules to provide further evaluation and management functions.
The inner chamber is made of stainless steel; the two inner doors, made of metal oxide-coated safety glass, allow the samples to be viewed without affecting the climatic conditions. Two external and two internal doors with door heating to prevent condensation, together with a robust housing design featuring HIT sandwich technology, ensure a stable, well-insulated chamber that quickly returns to its set climatic conditions even after frequent door openings. Cooling is provided by a modern inverter chiller using the climate-neutral refrigerant R-290, which, according to the manufacturer’s data sheet, offers up to 40 per cent lower energy consumption compared with the previous model.
Cost-effectiveness and sustainability in continuous operation
Constant-climate cabinets generally operate continuously for weeks or months, so energy consumption has a correspondingly significant impact on running costs. According to the manufacturer’s data sheet, the modern inverter refrigeration technology with a climate-neutral refrigerant saves up to 40 per cent in energy compared with the previous model, without compromising on the control accuracy of temperature and humidity. For laboratories with several climate-controlled cabinets operating in parallel, this difference adds up significantly over the service life; furthermore, the climate-neutral refrigerant reduces the environmental impact compared with older refrigerants.
Typical applications
As the most compact model in the series, the unit is particularly suitable for laboratories with limited floor space or for those looking to get started with standards-compliant climate testing without having to compromise on the full control technology offered by the larger models.
- Material testing at temperatures close to freezing right up to the high-temperature range
- THB tests (Temperature Humidity Bias, e.g. +85 °C at 85 per cent relative humidity) for reliability testing
- Smaller ICH stability series with capacity for special tests outside the standard range
Two stainless steel insert racks are included as standard; if required, the chamber can be fitted with additional insert racks, including reinforced ones, up to the maximum number permitted. External water supply systems are also available for humidity control, whilst software documentation upgrades are available up to the GLP Edition.
