Binder UF V 700 ultra-low temperature freezer, −90 °C to −40 °C, 736 l, 9020-0348

For biobanks and central sample archives with high throughput, the Binder UF V 700 is the largest model in the series. This ultra-low temperature freezer covers the temperature range from −90 °C to −40 °C and provides 736 litres of usable capacity in a housing that, at 1,110 mm wide, still fits through standard door openings. The chamber and removable inner doors are made entirely of stainless steel and are cooled using the climate-neutral refrigerants R-290 and R-170.

Large-volume storage with high cryobox capacity

Three stainless-steel shelves are fitted as standard, and the configuration can be expanded to accommodate up to eleven shelves. With six racks per shelf level, the UF V 700 holds up to 528 cryoboxes in the 50 mm format, more than any other size in the series. Each compartment can be loaded with up to 50 kg, with a total permissible load of 200 kg. If the freezer is expanded to the maximum number of eleven shelves, cryobox capacity grows beyond the factory configuration of three shelves, an advantage for sample archives that continue to grow over many years.

Cooling technology for a large chamber volume

Cooling is provided by the same cascade compression cooling machine with climate-neutral R-290 and R-170 refrigerants as used in the smaller models, designed for the larger volume. At a setpoint of −80 °C and an ambient temperature of 20 °C, energy consumption is 8.1 kWh/d, while cooling time from 22 °C to −80 °C is 450 min, correspondingly longer than for the smaller models in the series. Thermal insulation using vacuum insulation panels keeps wall thickness comparatively low despite the large volume. As with the UF V 500, the UF V 700 is also optionally available with water cooling. This item describes the air-cooled standard version with a 230 V connection.

Monitoring during continuous operation

An internal data logger continuously records the temperature and can be read via USB in an open format. The Ethernet interface integrates the freezer into a network, while a volt-free alarm contact reports faults to an existing building alarm system. Here too, the data logger stores measurements in an open format, allowing records to be read without manufacturer-specific software and incorporated into an existing quality management system. For an investment of this scale, a factory-fitted CO2 emergency cooling system is often worthwhile. It provides interim cooling for the chamber in the event of a power failure or cooling machine failure, but increases the housing depth to 1,085 mm.

Installation and electrical connection

The UF V 700 has a net weight of 288 kg, the highest weight in the series. The housing is 1,110 mm wide and 938 mm deep. Allow at least 100 mm clearance behind the freezer and at least 250 mm at the sides. It connects to a 230 V AC, 50 Hz supply via a CEE 7/7 (Schuko) plug, and the unit fuse is rated at 10 A. When planning installation, it is worth considering the door hinge side and floor load capacity, as the empty weight rises further when fully loaded with up to 200 kg of additional load.

UF V series sizes

The UF V 700 is the largest of three sizes in the air-cooled UF V series. The UF V 350 with 402 litres and the UF V 500 with 501 litres are also available. All three models share the same cooling technology, the same operating concept via data logger and Ethernet interface, and the same safety features. Several freezers in the series can therefore be combined at one site without different operating procedures. Binder also offers the UF V 700 with water cooling for locations with an existing cooling-water connection, but this is not part of the standard equipment for this item. For a unit in this performance class, heat output in the installation room is more noticeable than with the smaller models, so it is advisable to check existing room ventilation or air conditioning before ordering.
