When changing culture medium in plate formats, volumes in the three-digit microlitre range regularly occur. The Transferpette S -8 with 30-300 µl covers this requirement column by column across eight channels and marks the upper limit of the S-8 series.

8 individually manufactured and tested pistons are fitted in model M8-300, which thus serves 30-300 µl at an increment of 0.5 µl. Matching tips in the 5-300 µl range can be ejected without contact via the ejection mechanism. The common guidance of all 8 pistons in the housing keeps the effort close to the level of a single-channel pipette.

Adjustment without tools

Volume correction is done via Easy Calibration: a slider under the label window, no tool required. For special cases such as other media or locations, a volume offset is also available.

Reprocessing in the autoclave

The Transferpette S -8 is fully autoclavable, 121 °C, 2 bar, at least 15 minutes according to DIN EN 285, and the device remains assembled in the process. On the electronic sister series, the Transferpette -8 electronic, only the unscrewable pipette shaft can be autoclaved, which is a significant difference between the mechanical and the electronic version.

Ergonomics in series operation

With 8 channels guided together, a housing is required that does not overtax the span of the hand across the entire 30-300 µl range. The pipette body of the Transferpette S -8 is designed for exactly this, and the finger stroke remains even. The number of channels and the grip section are designed in neutral colours and are easy to read.

Place within the Transferpette S family

Complementing the 8-channel version, the Transferpette S -12 with 12 channels belongs to the same model system, and for individual samples the single-channel series Transferpette S Fix and Variable. Uniform adjustment and autoclavability across the entire series make it easier to use several channel counts in the same laboratory.

Selection guide

Below it is the neighbouring variant with 20-200 µl (MPN 705910). For volumes beyond 300 µl, the single-channel series Transferpette S Variable with larger models is available. Channel count, model and adjustment method stay identical when switching between volume steps of the same series, only the test range and the corresponding tip size change. If you are unsure which range suits your protocol, base the choice on the volume you pipette most often within the series and pick the range in which this volume lies as close as possible to the upper test point.

Accuracy across the test range

Testing is carried out at three test volumes (100 %, 50 % and 10 % of the nominal volume 30-300 µl). The systematic measurement error is given as 300 µl: ± 0.8 % / 150 µl: ± 1.4 % / 30 µl: ± 4 %, the random measurement error (coefficient of variation) as 300 µl: ± 0.3 % / 150 µl: ± 0.6 % / 30 µl: ± 1.5 %. As with any air displacement pipette, the relative deviation grows towards the lower test point and is tightest at the upper test point. In practice this means that batches at the upper end of the nominal volume turn out most uniform, while smaller partial volumes should be spot-checked in critical applications.
