For pipette tips, small glassware or tools, a simple ultrasonic bath with fixed time settings is often sufficient. With a tank capacity of 2.7 l and a built-in heater, the Elma Elmasonic Easy 30H offers precisely this basic set-up for the laboratory bench, without controls that are not needed in day-to-day use anyway. The Easy series is designed for simple applications where a reliable, quick-to-use device is more important than programmability or multiple ultrasonic modes.Operation via a rotary knobInstead of a digital display and menus, the Easy 30H features an analogue rotary knob with ten fixed time settings ranging from 1 to 30 minutes, as well as continuous operation for up to 6 hours. LED indicators show the operating status; two ultrasonic modes, Eco and Dynamic, cover the vast majority of laboratory cleaning tasks. Those who only clean occasionally or use the unit at different workstations can use it without any training; a second glance at the manual is rarely necessary, and even new staff can be shown how to use it quickly.Compact bath for the laboratory benchThe tank has a capacity of 2.7 l; a working volume of 1.6 l is recommended, with internal dimensions of 220 x 120 x 95 mm. This is sufficient for pipette tips, small glassware, laboratory cutlery or tools, without the need to use a large amount of cleaning solution. A modular cleaning basket 30 (item no. 1108916) holds the items above the base of the tank; an insert lid (item no. 1110262) or a stainless steel lid 30/40 (item no. 1111930) are available as accessories. For larger quantities of similar small parts, a suitable Hostalen tank is also available, which is used in size 30 for the Select and P models as well.Heating and performanceThe integrated heater ranges from 25 to 80 °C with a heating power of 200 watts; the ultrasonic power is 80 watts effective with a peak power of 320 watts. The Easy 30H does not have a drain connection; to empty it, the tank is tilted or the water is scooped out into a separate container. For a unit of this size, this is generally not a disadvantage in everyday laboratory use, as the volume of water remains small. The IP20 protection rating also means that the housing itself is not designed to withstand splashing water; the unit should therefore be placed on a dry surface.Cleaning in day-to-day useA typical cleaning cycle begins by adding the cleaning solution directly into the tank; the appropriate time setting is then selected using the rotary knob, depending on the level of soiling, this ranges from a few minutes to continuous operation. The ‘Dynamic’ mode is suitable for more stubborn residues, whilst ‘Eco’ is designed for gentler routine cleaning with lower energy consumption. The Elma Elmasonic P 30H switches between 37 and 80 kHz, meeting both requirements with a single unit, whilst offering a 2.75-litre tank capacity for smaller sample volumes. Elma positions the P-series for medical and analytical laboratories, as well as for intensive cleaning in industry, where a single frequency is not sufficient for all cleaning stages.Two frequencies for different cleaning tasksAt 37 kHz, the unit generates 120 watts of effective ultrasonic power (480 watts peak) for coarse cleaning; at 80 kHz, it delivers 100 watts effective (400 watts peak) for gentler, fine cleaning of sensitive surfaces. Additionally, the unit features a ‘Pulse’ mode for brief bursts of increased power, a ‘Sweep’ mode for even sound distribution, and a ‘Degas’ mode for the rapid degassing of fresh cleaning baths. Power control and a pause function complement the operating modes, allowing the cleaning process to be adapted to different materials without having to change the unit or switch back and forth between two separate ultrasonic baths.Precise operation with autostartTwo rotary switches set the sonication duration and temperature, whilst a keypad with a digital display shows setpoint and actual values simultaneously. The autostart function only begins the cleaning cycle once the bath has reached the set temperature, which keeps cleaning results comparable across multiple runs. The temperature range extends from 30 to 80 °C, slightly higher than in the Select and Easy series, which start at 25 °C, making it suitable for the more demanding requirements of analytical applications and for cleaning agents that only achieve their full effect at higher temperatures.Tank and basket for sample preparationAccording to the data sheet and operating instructions, the bath has a capacity of 2.75 l, with internal dimensions of 240 x 137 x 100 mm; the recommended working volume is 1.9 l. The matching modular cleaning basket 30 (item no. 1108916) has internal dimensions of 198 x 106 x 50 mm and is designed to hold up to 1.0 kg, making it suitable for smaller sample batches, individual sensors or several components at once. A drain tap (G 3/8 inch) facilitates the change of cleaning medium between batches; this connection is not included on the P 30H SE variant.Procedure for analytical cleaningIn practice, the sample is first cleaned of coarser residues at 37 kHz, followed by gentler fine cleaning of more sensitive surfaces at 80 kHz. The Degas mode degasses the freshly prepared bath in advance so that cavitation is not weakened by dissolved air. The digital display allows you to check at any time whether the target temperature has been reached before the autostart function begins the actual cycle.
