Items cleaned in the Select series include volumetric measuring equipment, test tubes and other laboratory instruments. The Elma Elmasonic Select 60 is designed for this with 5.9 litres total volume and 4.3 litres recommended working volume. Compared with the Select 40, it has a drain connection, more heating power and a longer tank. The tank is made of stainless steel like the housing, and the frequency is 37 kHz. Externally the unit measures 370 x 210 x 280 mm with lid and weighs 5.2 kg.Tank dimensions and drainThe internal dimensions of the tank are 280 x 130 x 145 mm, the fill level 115 mm. 85 mm remain between the basket floor and the liquid level. The original accessory basket measures 255 x 115 x 75 mm internally and carries up to 5 kg. The medium is drained via a G 3/8 inch connection that is opened and closed with a rotary switch. The DN10 hose nozzle is supplied with the unit. The plastic lid serves, turned upside down, as a drip tray for a basket.Ultrasound, heating and programs150 W effective ultrasonic power compares with 600 W peak power, the heater delivers 400 W, and the unit draws 550 W in total. Five modes can be selected: Eco, Sweep, Pulse, Dynamic and Degas. Sweep distributes the mechanical cleaning effect evenly, Degas prepares the bath for the actual cleaning, and Dynamic combines Pulse and Sweep. Four programs store mode, duration and temperature. Auto-Degas and the temperature-controlled start are also part of the range of functions.Display, timer and protective functionsA large display and a wipe-clean membrane keypad with plus and minus keys form the controls. The duration ranges from 1 minute to 6 hours, the setpoint temperature from 25 to 80 °C, and the limit temperature can be set between 40 and 60 °C. With active heating, dry-run protection monitors the tank, and after 8 hours the unit switches off. With lid, the sound pressure level at a distance of 1 m is below 80 dB(A) and the ultrasonic pressure level below 110 dB. The unit meets degree of protection IP20 and protection class I.Placement within the Select seriesThe Elmasonic Select 40 has 3.9 litres, a tank of 215 x 115 x 145 mm and no drain. For longer items, the Elmasonic Select 80 has a tank of 475 x 110 x 145 mm, so more length with less depth, plus 600 W heating power. Capillaries and very small, delicate parts are cleaned at 80 kHz, coarse contamination at 37 kHz, and for both a single unit is enough with the Elma Elmasonic P 60H. It switches between the two frequencies, has 5.75 litres tank volume and a heater with 500 W. Elma describes the P series as a helper in analytical and medical laboratories as well as in industry and for analytical applications with the highest requirements.37 kHz and 80 kHz comparedAt 37 kHz the unit has 180 W effective ultrasonic power and 720 W peak, and at 80 kHz it is 150 W and 600 W. The lower frequency removes coarse contamination and serves for mixing, dissolving, dispersing and degassing. At 80 kHz, capillaries and very small, delicate parts are cleaned, and operation is quieter. Switching takes place manually or automatically.Pulse, Sweep, Degas and power controlPulse intensifies the sonication by up to 20 %, and Sweep is the function for even distribution of the sound energy. Degas and Auto-Degas degas samples, HPLC solvents and freshly prepared cleaning liquid. The power can be controlled between 30 and 100 % in 10 % steps, and a pause function halts the sonication. With the temperature-controlled auto start, sonication begins only when the bath has reached the set temperature.Two rotary switches and an alphanumeric displaySonication duration and temperature are selected with two rotary switches, and the keypad and the alphanumeric display show setpoint and actual values. The unit stores the last setting. In short-time operation the times go from 1 to 10 minutes in 1-minute steps, then in steps from 15 to 60 minutes, plus a continuous setting with automatic shutdown after 12 hours. The temperature is between 30 and 80 °C in 5 °C steps, and at a bath temperature of 90 °C the safety shutdown acts.Tank, drain and accessoriesThe tank measures 300 x 151 x 150 mm internally and holds 5.75 litres at most, with 4.3 litres of working volume recommended. The modular cleaning basket 60 (item no. 1113050) has internal dimensions of 255 x 115 x 75 mm and carries up to 5.0 kg. At the back there is a ball valve with 3/8 inch drain connection, and hose nozzle and hose clamp are included. Elma does not supply a lid.
