Product information "Eppendorf Reference 2 Multichannel Pipette, 8-channel, 0.5–10 µL, medium grey, 4926000018"
The Eppendorf Reference 2 multichannel pipette, 8-channel, 0.5–10 µL, medium grey, is designed for high-repetition pipetting in day-to-day laboratory work. With 8 channels, it is designed for column-by-column operation: an entire column of a microtitre plate or an 8-well PCR strip can be transferred in a single stroke, for example when transferring PCR products to a detection plate or when loading a strip format. The volume range of 0.5–10 µL covers typical PCR and qPCR set-ups, where master mix, primers or probes are dispensed in very small quantities across many wells, often in the single-digit microlitre range. Instead of a conventional rotary dial, the instrument features a single-button control: once the target volume has been set in the morning and the same value is used to pipette series after series throughout the day, there is no need for readjustment; a glance at the display before each new series is sufficient. The epT.I.P.S. 0.1–20 µL medium grey, 40 mm tips are designed for this purpose; the order number for this version is 4926000018. The medium grey colour code on the 8 tip cones corresponds to the volume colour coding used by Eppendorf for this range and makes it easier to identify the correct epT.I.P.S. tips in the tip rack.
Typical applications
The Reference 2 multichannel pipette, 8-channel, 0.5–10 µL, is primarily used in everyday laboratory work for the following steps, where the same volume needs to be dispensed repeatedly into several wells:
- Simultaneous dispensing of PCR and qPCR master mixes into multiple wells
- Transfer of entire PCR strips or plate columns in a single stroke
- Loading plates with primers or probes in the single-microlitre range
- Dilution series for molecular biology using very small volumes
- Workstations where the medium-grey colour-coding of the 8-channel tips is used for quick identification in the tip rack
Selection guide
If you are looking for the same volume range of 0.5–10 µL with a classic, mechanical piston-driven pipette rather than a single-button operation, the Eppendorf Research plus offers an alternative in the range. For column-by-column work or row-by-row filling with a different number of channels, the 12-channel version of the Reference 2 with the same volume range is also available. If you have any queries regarding the appropriate number of channels or the suitable volume range for your own workflow, LT Laborhandel’s procurement service will be happy to assist. For programming functions, multiple dispensing modes or battery operation, LT Laborhandel also stocks the electronic Eppendorf Xplorer/Xplorer plus series, an alternative to the mechanical pipette described here. The 8-channel version with a volume range of 0.5–10 µL can be exchanged at any time for a different number of channels or a different volume range within the same series, without altering the rest of the laboratory workflow.
Accuracy in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8655
Testing is carried out in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8655, with ten repetitions per test point and water in accordance with ISO 3696, with dispensing against the vessel wall. For the 0.5–10 µL range, the values at the test points lie between 0.5 and 10 µL; these are broken down below into systematic and random deviations.
Recommended pipetting technique and environmental conditions
Tips that are not seated evenly are one of the most common causes of deviations between individual channels of a multichannel pipette; a quick visual check before the series helps to prevent this. The permissible operating range is 5 to 40 °C and 10 to 95 per cent relative humidity; for storage without packaging, the range is –5 to 45 °C. With 8 channels in use simultaneously, it is worth carrying out a brief test pipette stroke with water before the first run of the day to check that all channels are aspirating evenly before pipetting the actual samples.
