IKA A 11.1 Replacement beater, stainless steel, for A 11 basic, 0002904600

Product information "IKA A 11.1 Replacement beater, stainless steel, for A 11 basic, 0002904600"

Kinetics of high-speed impact crushing

In instrumental analysis and geochemical sample preparation, the physical digestion of hard and brittle matrices is the fundamental process step. The IKA A 11.1 replacement beater is the fluid-dynamic and kinetic core component of the A 11 basic analytical mill. The process principle is based on extreme impact and shock comminution. Driven at rotational speeds of up to 28,000 revolutions per minute, the solid stainless-steel beater generates immense circumferential velocities at its outer edges. The kinetic energy generated in this process is released instantaneously upon direct impact with the sample material. This mechanical impulse overcomes the internal tensile strength of the solids and leads to the immediate, microscopic shattering of the crystal lattice structures.

Tribology and thermodynamic efficiency

When processing materials with a Mohs hardness of up to 6 (such as minerals, ceramics or hard agricultural products), the striking edge of the stainless steel tool is subjected to massive tribological stresses. Mechanical wear caused by micro-collisions inevitably leads to a gradual blunting of the profile. A blunted beater drastically alters the physics within the grinding chamber: instead of fracturing the particles in a brittle manner, the kinetic friction on the sample increases exponentially. This frictional energy is immediately converted into thermodynamic heat (exothermic reaction). To prevent denaturing thermal stress on the sample and to ensure the analytically required, reproducible particle size distribution, the timely replacement of the rotor with a geometrically flawless A 11.1 beater is absolutely essential from a process engineering perspective.

Material integrity and analytical purity

To physically minimise contamination of the sample by metallic abrasion (carry-over), the beater is manufactured from a highly corrosion-resistant and tough stainless steel. The structural integrity of this monomaterial design prevents plastic deformation under extreme centrifugal forces. For laboratories operating under strict GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) guidelines, the electropolished metal surface enables complete chemical decontamination as well as residue-free thermal sterilisation in an autoclave.

Custom requirements & accessories

The A 11.1 beater is the primary mechanical wear part of the A 11 basic analytical mill. For laboratories with high sample throughput, it is both metrologically and economically advisable to always keep spare beaters in stock in order to maintain the mill’s thermodynamically optimised efficiency. If your samples reach the Mohs hardness limit of the stainless steel (> Mohs 6, e.g. in the case of extremely hard ores or glasses), switching to specific carbide tools is absolutely essential to prevent severe abrasion.
