The IKA CBC ROTAVISC me-vi Package (MPN 0010014058) is the answer to the most common requirement in rheological laboratories: “We need to measure various samples precisely at different temperatures.” Whether you need to test the storage stability of a cream at low temperatures, assess the workability of a paint at room temperature, or simulate the flow behaviour of hot-melt adhesive – this package makes it possible. It seamlessly combines the IKA ROTAVISC me-vi, the standard for medium viscosities, with the CBC 5 basic dynamic cooling and heating circulation bath.
The “me-vi” range: the heart of viscometry
The measuring head of this system is the ROTAVISC me-vi (“Medium Viscosity”). With an immense measuring range of 100 to 40,000,000 mPas, it covers precisely the range within which most industrial and chemical products fall. Typical applications include:

Master the climate: CBC 5 basic
Viscosity is inextricably linked to temperature. A deviation of just 1 °C can lead to measurement errors of over 10 % for some oils or polymers. The CBC 5 basic circulating bath included in the set eliminates this uncertainty. It offers an extremely wide operating temperature range from -25 °C to +200 °C.
- Active cooling: Even if you ‘only’ want to measure at 20 °C, an active cooler is often necessary to dissipate the frictional heat from the spindle or to compensate for high ambient temperatures in summer. It also enables low-temperature testing (e.g. winter resistance of diesel or cosmetics).
- Powerful heating: With 2,500 watts, the unit heats the bath in a flash, minimising waiting times between different temperature settings.
- Excellent circulation: The powerful pressure and suction pump ensures vigorous mixing of the bath medium. This guarantees that the temperature at the measuring cup matches exactly the temperature shown on the display.
An integrated system
The major advantage of this ‘Solution’ package is its mechanical and thermal integration. The viscometer is not simply placed next to the thermostat, but is mounted directly above the bath using a special bracket. The measuring cup is immersed in the temperature-controlled liquid. This ensures optimum heat transfer without the losses that can occur with external hose temperature control. The system is compact, tidy and saves valuable space on the laboratory bench.
Smart laboratory: ramping and documentation
For modern R&D departments, static measurement is often not enough. You want to know: “How does my product change as it cools down?” Thanks to the USB and RS-232 interfaces on both devices (viscometer and thermostat), you can connect the system to a PC. Use the labworldsoft software ® (optional) to synchronise both devices.
