IKA EasySyn 1000 Starter Synthesis Reactor, Reactor Volume 1,000 ml, 0010016815

Product information "IKA EasySyn 1000 Starter Synthesis Reactor, Reactor Volume 1,000 ml, 0010016815"

For many syntheses there is a gap between first hand trials in a round-bottom flask and a real scale-up plant: a millilitre-scale batch says little about behaviour at larger volumes, while a pilot reactor is often oversized for early test series. The IKA EasySyn 1000 Starter (0010016815) closes this gap with a complete reactor system for 1,000 millilitres of reaction volume, made up of stand, double-walled reactor vessel and stirrer, ready for use straight after set-up. Compared with the smaller 500 millilitre model, the additional reaction volume offers more buffer if a batch turns out larger than originally planned when transferred to the reactor, without having to switch straight to the next larger 2 litre model.

1,000 millilitre reactor vessel with the same safety concept as the entire series

The double-walled reactor vessel SY 1000 D is made of chemically resistant borosilicate glass 3.3 and has a bottom outlet with a spring-loaded valve spindle, which protects against glass breakage when opening and closing. The reactor lid SY 100.1 offers four openings: an NS 29/32 centre joint for the stirrer as well as two further NS 29/32 and one NS 14/23 connection for accessories such as dropping funnels, reflux condensers or temperature sensors. The flange connection with DN 100 clamp, clamping ring and FEP-coated O-ring is identical to that of the smaller 500 millilitre model, only the vessel itself is larger. Via the bottom outlet, the finished reaction product can be drained directly into a collecting vessel without lifting the vessel to empty it.

EUROSTAR 60 digital as a reliable basic drive

Mixing is provided by the EUROSTAR 60 digital stirrer with a brushless DC motor. It covers a speed range of 0/30 to 2,000 revolutions per minute and delivers up to 60 Ncm of torque at the stirring shaft, sufficient for most low- to medium-viscosity reaction media on the 1 litre scale. An integrated torque trend display shows changes in viscosity during the reaction. The PTFE-coated pitched-blade stirrer R 4011 SY can be changed without tools via the quick-release chuck R 60. The brushless DC motor (176 watts input, 126 watts output) needs no carbon brushes in continuous operation and is therefore considered low-maintenance.

Vacuum, temperature range and usable volume

The stirrer shaft guide makes the system suitable for vacuum operation down to 3 mbar, for example for degassing solvents or for bubble-free stirring of viscous media. The materials installed are approved for a temperature range of minus 50 to plus 200 °C, and the permissible ambient temperature for continuous operation is between 5 and 40 °C. The vessel can be used from 120 millilitres of filling volume, and with the temperature sensor immersed the minimum usable volume rises to 260 millilitres. The stirrer shaft guide (SY guide) seals the passage of the stirring shaft through the reactor lid and is what makes vacuum operation possible in the first place.

Ergonomic stand system for everyday laboratory use

The stand is designed for quick, uncomplicated exchange of the reactor vessel and its working height can be adjusted to the respective operator. For laboratories that run several EasySyn systems of different sizes in parallel, this is a practical everyday advantage: reactor vessel, clamp, clamping ring and O-ring follow the same design principle on all DN 100 models of the series, so that spare parts and operating procedures are largely the same between the 500 and the 1,000 millilitre model.

What the Starter variant deliberately leaves out

Unlike the Advanced version, the EasySyn 1000 Starter does without the draining set LT 5.40 and an RS232/USB interface on the stirrer. For laboratories that primarily want to stir and control temperature without connecting the process digitally to a PC, this is not a disadvantage but simply a leaner and less expensive specification. An external circulating thermostat including temperature control hoses is in any case additionally required for actual heating or cooling of the double jacket, regardless of the variant chosen.

Typical applications

With 1,000 millilitres of reaction volume, the EasySyn 1000 Starter sits in the intermediate range between small screening batches and larger sample batches:

  • Process development in the transition between very small batches and larger sample production
  • Reproducible syntheses with defined temperature control and vacuum option
  • Production of larger quantities of an intermediate for downstream analysis
  • Training and practical courses with realistic reactor volumes
  • Cost-efficient entry into reactor-based syntheses without PC connection
