IKA EasySyn 5000 Advanced Synthesis Reactor, Reactor Volume 5,000 ml, RS232/USB, 0010016812

At the top of the EasySyn series, the IKA EasySyn 5000 Advanced (0010016812) is the largest and best-equipped model, a complete reactor system for a reaction volume of 5,000 millilitres with digital PC connection via RS232 and USB. For the step from laboratory to pilot-plant scale, for example when producing larger customer samples, formulation batches or pilot batches, the process can be automated and fully documented with the laboratory software labworldsoft 6. As the largest and best-equipped model of the whole series, the 5000 Advanced is aimed specifically at applications that need both a large reaction volume and complete digital process documentation across several batches.

5-litre reactor vessel with DN 150 flange

The double-walled reactor vessel SY 5000 D made of borosilicate glass 3.3 has a bottom outlet with a spring-loaded valve spindle that protects against glass breakage when opening and closing, an important detail with the largest filling volume of the series. The flange connection is matched to the large vessel with DN 150 (SY clamp 150, SY clamping ring 150, FEP-coated SY O-ring 150). The reactor lid SY 150.1 offers four openings: an NS 29/32 centre joint for the stirrer as well as two further NS 29/32 and one NS 14/23 connection, for example for reflux condensers or an additional temperature probe. The borosilicate glass 3.3 and the FEP-coated O-ring are resistant to a wide range of solvents and reagents, even with demanding reaction media at the 5-litre scale.

EUROSTAR 100 control for high torques at large volumes

Instead of the simple EUROSTAR 60 digital of the starter variant, the Advanced model drives the PTFE-coated pitched-blade stirrer R 4013 SY with the EUROSTAR 100 control overhead stirrer. It covers a speed range from 0/30 to 1,300 revolutions per minute and delivers up to 100 Ncm of torque at the stirrer shaft, important with larger filling volumes and more viscous reaction media. In addition to the RS232 and USB interface, a timer, overload protection and temperature measurement are integrated directly in the overhead stirrer. An integrated torque trend display also makes changes in viscosity visible during the reaction, a useful additional indicator especially with the larger batch sizes in the 5-litre format.

Drain set LT 5.40 for changing large reactor vessels

The scope of delivery of the Advanced version also includes the drain set LT 5.40. Its own valves allow the temperature control fluid to be drained from the double jacket cleanly and without drip losses, which makes changing a 5-litre reactor vessel much easier, especially when switching between different batches or reaction runs. Without this set, the temperature control fluid would have to be drained manually via the hose connections before each change, which takes a noticeable amount of time with the large filling volume of the 5-litre double jacket.

Vacuum, temperature range and usable volume

Vacuum operation down to 3 mbar is possible via the stirrer shaft guide. The materials used are approved for a temperature range of minus 50 to plus 200 °C, and the permissible ambient temperature for operation itself is between 5 and 40 °C. The 5,000 millilitre vessel can be used from a filling volume of 1,000 millilitres, and with the temperature probe immersed the usable minimum volume rises to 1,500 millilitres. The stirrer shaft guide (SY guide) seals the stirrer shaft against the reactor lid and is therefore a prerequisite for vacuum operation down to 3 mbar.

Ergonomic stand system with fast vessel change

The working height of the stand adapts to the operator and allows the 5-litre reactor vessel to be exchanged quickly via the DN 150 clamp. Together with the drain set LT 5.40 included in the scope of delivery, the double jacket can be emptied completely before the vessel is changed, a noticeable time saving with the largest and therefore also heaviest reactor vessel of the EasySyn series.
