IKA EasySyn 5000 Starter Synthesis Reactor, Reactor Volume 5,000 ml, 0010016817

Product information "IKA EasySyn 5000 Starter Synthesis Reactor, Reactor Volume 5,000 ml, 0010016817"

At the upper end of the EasySyn series comes the move from pure laboratory scale towards pilot plant: larger batch quantities, longer reaction times, often also the first step towards customer samples or pilot batches. The IKA EasySyn 5000 Starter (0010016817) provides a complete reactor system for 5,000 millilitres of reaction volume, made up of stand, double-walled reactor vessel and stirrer, without the additional digital technology of the Advanced variant. As the largest vessel of the EasySyn series, it is suitable for batches where the smaller 500, 1,000 and 2,000 millilitre models would already reach their capacity limit.

5 litre reactor vessel with DN 150 flange

The double-walled reactor vessel SY 5000 D made of borosilicate glass 3.3 has, like the smaller EasySyn models, a bottom outlet with a spring-loaded valve spindle that protects against glass breakage when opening and closing, no insignificant detail with a 5 litre vessel with a correspondingly larger fill quantity. The flange connection is sized at DN 150 (SY clamp 150, SY clamping ring 150, FEP-coated SY O-ring 150). The reactor lid SY 150.1 offers four openings: an NS 29/32 centre joint for the stirrer as well as two further NS 29/32 and one NS 14/23 connection for accessories such as reflux condensers or temperature sensors. Via the bottom outlet, the reaction product can be drained directly into a collecting vessel, practical with the large fill quantity of this model.

EUROSTAR 60 digital for the largest vessel type of the series

The PTFE-coated pitched-blade stirrer R 4013 SY, the stirrer size designed for 5,000 millilitres, is driven by the EUROSTAR 60 digital stirrer. The brushless DC motor covers a speed range of 0/30 to 2,000 revolutions per minute and delivers up to 60 Ncm of torque at the stirring shaft. An integrated torque trend display makes changes in viscosity during the course of the reaction visible. The stirring tool can be changed without tools via the quick-release chuck R 60. The brushless DC motor (176 watts input, 126 watts output) manages without carbon brushes and is therefore considered particularly low-maintenance, an advantage for units that run in continuous operation over longer reaction times.

Vacuum, temperature range and usable volume

A special stirrer shaft guide makes the system suitable for operation under vacuum down to 3 mbar. The materials used are designed for a temperature range of minus 50 to plus 200 °C, and the permissible ambient temperature for operation itself is between 5 and 40 °C. The 5,000 millilitre vessel can be used from a filling volume of 1,000 millilitres, and with the temperature sensor immersed the minimum usable volume rises to 1,500 millilitres, considerably more than with the smaller sizes of the EasySyn series. Here too, the stirrer shaft guide (SY guide) takes care of sealing the stirring shaft against the reactor lid.

Ergonomic stand system for the largest EasySyn format

Even with the largest model of the series, the stand system remains ergonomically designed and its working height can be adjusted to the respective operator, an aspect that comes into play particularly when handling the large and correspondingly heavier 5 litre vessel. The large, correspondingly heavy reactor vessel can be exchanged via the DN 150 clamp without having to dismantle the stand or stirrer. Anyone who runs several EasySyn sizes in parallel in the laboratory also benefits from the fact that the operating logic of clamp, clamping ring and reactor lid is identical across the entire series.

What the Starter variant deliberately leaves out

The EasySyn 5000 Starter does without the draining set LT 5.40 and an RS232/USB interface on the stirrer, both features of the Advanced version. Anyone who primarily wants to stir, heat or cool in the largest EasySyn format without connecting the process digitally to a PC thus obtains a complete, less expensive system. An external circulating thermostat including temperature control hoses is in any case additionally required for actual temperature control of the double jacket, regardless of the variant chosen.

Typical applications

As the largest model of the Starter series, the EasySyn 5000 Starter covers applications where considerably larger volumes than on the pure screening scale are already needed:

  • Transition from laboratory towards pilot plant or pilot scale
  • Production of larger batches for customer samples, formulation trials or pilot batches
  • Reactions with greater heat exchange requirements thanks to the large double jacket surface
  • Syntheses under vacuum, for example for degassing larger batch quantities
  • Cost-efficient entry to the 5 litre scale without PC connection
