Product information "IKA EUROSTAR 20 high speed digital overhead stirrer with LCD display, up to 6,000 rpm, 0020105160"

The IKA EUROSTAR 20 high speed digital overhead stirrer (MPN 0020105160) represents the modernised, mechatronically optimised generation of specialised laboratory stirrers for high-speed applications. With a footprint reduced by up to 23 % compared to previous models, this unit offers high functional density within a minimal footprint. Designed for simple to moderately demanding mixing tasks, it handles sample volumes of up to 20 litres (based on water) and covers a viscosity range of up to 10,000 mPas. It is suitable for emulsification processes, microstructural homogenisation and intensive mixing cycles in everyday B2B laboratory work.

Within the EUROSTAR series, the Model 20 high speed digital is designed for speed rather than volume: with up to 6,000 revolutions per minute, it achieves a significantly higher speed range than the standard models in the Digital series (20, 40, 60, 100 digital), which offer a maximum of 2,000 rpm, whilst also featuring a smaller mixing volume of 20 litres.

Torque trend measurement and stepless speed control

The metrological feature of the EUROSTAR 20 high speed digital is its integrated torque trend measurement with an accuracy of ±6 Ncm. The relative viscosity trend is displayed on the LCD screen, providing laboratory staff with feedback on the progress of the mixing process. An automatic speed control system continuously regulates the brushless DC motor within a high-speed range of 150 to 6,000 revolutions per minute and maintains the set speed even when the material changes.

Ergonomic tool change and scope of delivery

The integrated quick-release chuck allows one-handed replacement of the stirring shafts without the need for additional tools. The R 6000 precision stirring shaft, with a length of 280 mm and a maximum immersion depth of 220 mm, is included in the scope of delivery for immediate use. A lock button protects the unit during operation against accidental changes to the settings. In the event of a mechanical blockage or critical overload, independent safety circuits trigger an automatic shutdown of the mixing drive.

Digital documentation and robust IP 54 housing design

The composite housing, made from coated cast aluminium and thermoplastic, is splash- and steam-proof in accordance with degree of protection IP 54. The brushless DC drive operates wear-free and quietly, and is designed for a 100 % duty cycle in continuous operation. Integrated timer and counter functions enable time-controlled experiments. USB-C and RS232 interfaces are used for documentation via the labworldsoft laboratory software.

IKA R 1405 propeller, Ø 45 mm, for EUROSTAR 20 & T 50, 0001289800
IKA R 1405 propeller, Ø 45 mm, for EUROSTAR 20 & T 50, 0001289800
Manufacturer number: 0001289800

The perfect combination of high speed and gentle sample handling: the IKA R 1405 propeller In modern process engineering, chemical synthesis, cosmetics development and demanding food technology, laboratory technicians and researchers face a physical dilemma on a daily basis: how can low- to medium-viscosity liquids be mixed quickly and homogeneously at extremely high speeds without the resulting frictional energy causing thermal degradation of the sample? Many conventional stirring elements and dispersing tools generate enormous shear forces during high-speed applications, which inevitably lead to a rapid and uncontrolled rise in temperature within the medium. For temperature-sensitive biological samples, volatile solvents or complex emulsions that would break down immediately if exposed to heat, this is an absolute deal-breaker. IKA has developed the highly specialised R 1405 propeller (MPN 0001289800) specifically for this critical set of requirements. This stirring tool makes it possible to work at high speeds whilst reducing the thermal stress on your product. Top-class fluid dynamics: the axial flow pattern The physical secret behind the outstanding efficiency of the IKA R 1405 propeller, which has a precisely calculated diameter of 45 millimetres, lies in its specific aerodynamic blade geometry. Unlike radial agitators, which hurl the medium against the vessel wall with brute force, generating significant frictional heat, this propeller creates a purely axial flow pattern. This means that the liquid flows are pumped through the entire vessel volume parallel to the agitator shaft, from top to bottom (or vice versa, depending on the direction of rotation). The result is a massive circulation capacity with surprisingly low shear forces. This gentle yet highly effective circulation reliably prevents solids from settling at the bottom of the vessel (suspension) and ensures excellent, rapid heat exchange within the sample. The molecular chains in your liquid are gently mixed rather than being mechanically broken up, which preserves the viscosity and texture of the end product at premium quality. Unrivalled system compatibility: one tool, two device worlds Another outstanding economic advantage of the IKA R 1405 propeller is its smart cross-compatibility within the IKA instrument portfolio. Laboratory budgets are often limited, and the purchase of dedicated accessories for each individual base unit unnecessarily ties up financial resources and valuable storage space. The R 1405 ingeniously bridges the gap between two completely different classes of equipment. On the one hand, it is the perfect stirring element for the high-speed laboratory stirrers of the EUROSTAR 20 high speed series (digital and control). On the other hand, it can be seamlessly coupled as an alternative mixing head to the high-performance T 50 digital dispersing drive (as an alternative to the R 1402 dissolver). (Please note: to mechanically connect the propeller head to the respective motor, you will need the appropriate intermediate shaft. For the EUROSTAR 20, this is the R 6000 precision stirring shaft; for the T 50 drive, it is the R 50 high-speed stirring shaft. These shafts act as adaptors and power transmitters). Thanks to this enormous versatility, you can significantly increase the utilisation (return on investment) of your existing IKA equipment. Scalability from laboratory to pilot scale When a new product is being developed in the research and development (R&D) department, this usually takes place in small beakers. If the formulation works, the process must be scaled up to pilot scale quickly. The R 1405 propeller supports this critical scale-up process perfectly. With a specified, exceptionally wide operating range from 0.25 litres up to a massive 30 litres (based on the viscosity of water), a single tool covers the entire journey from the initial small-scale feasibility study in a test tube right through to the production of a pre-production batch in a large stainless-steel laboratory reactor. You do not need to change the geometry of the agitator as the volume increases, which ensures the reproducibility of your experimental data and drastically minimises sources of error during scale-up (scale-up factor). Material quality, cleaning and integration into your QM system Manufactured from high-quality, corrosion-resistant stainless steel, the IKA R 1405 propeller effortlessly withstands aggressive chemicals, harsh solvents, acids and alkalis. The smooth surfaces and flow-optimised edges without blind spots ensure that no product residues can become trapped. The tool can be cleaned quickly, safely and with absolutely no residue after use, which is essential in GMP-regulated environments, in pharmaceutical research or in the food industry to prevent dangerous cross-contamination. Choosing this original IKA accessory means investing in a durable accessory and in reproducible mixing results. It is the ultimate tool for users who want to get the maximum mixing performance out of their IKA high-speed drives without compromising on sample integrity. IKA R 1402 Dissolver (toothed disc), Ø 42 mm, for EUROSTAR 20 & T 50, 0001243300
Manufacturer number: 0001243300

Maximum shear forces for the most demanding dispersions: the IKA R 1402 Dissolver In modern product development, the chemical industry, paint and varnish manufacturing, and sophisticated cosmetic formulation, the incorporation of fine powders into liquid media presents one of the greatest process engineering challenges. Whether they are colour pigments, high-molecular-weight thickeners, ceramic powders or active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), upon contact with the liquid surface, these solids almost invariably tend to agglomerate immediately. So-called agglomerates form, in which the outer particles are wetted but the inner core of the powder remains dry (often referred to as ‘fish eyes’). Conventional propeller or anchor stirrers inevitably reach their physical limits here. They merely move these viscous clumps in a circle through the vessel without breaking them up mechanically. The disastrous consequences include extremely prolonged process times, defective product textures, reduced colour intensity in paints, or incomplete release of active ingredients in cosmetic creams. It is precisely for this critical, highly complex problem area that IKA has developed the R 1402 Dissolver (MPN 0001243300). This highly specialised high-speed mixing tool shatters stubborn agglomerates in milliseconds and guarantees you absolutely homogeneous, lump-free and perfectly dispersed suspensions in record time. The physics of comminution: the dissolver principle The technological heart of the IKA R 1402 is its precisely calculated and balanced dissolver disc (toothed disc) with a diameter of 42 millimetres. Unlike agitators, which are primarily designed for circulation, this dissolver head generates immense local shear forces at extremely high speeds. The teeth on the outer edge of the solid metal disc, which are alternately curved upwards and downwards, cut through the liquid medium at high speed. Extreme turbulence, cavitation forces and enormous mechanical impact forces arise at the edges of these teeth. The powder-liquid mixture is accelerated radially outwards with immense force by the fluid dynamic profile, strikes the vessel wall and circulates back towards the agitator shaft. This raw, yet precisely controlled, kinetic energy literally tears the stubborn agglomerate structures apart into their tiny primary particles. It is only through this radial flow pattern and the extremely high energy input that solids which are difficult to wet can be completely broken down and permanently stabilised in the liquid phase. The vortex effect for perfect powder incorporation Another key advantage of the IKA R 1402 Dissolver is the generation of a massive vortex (funnel). When the dissolver rotates at high speeds, a powerful suction force is created at the centre of the mixing vessel, reaching deep into the medium. If you now add your light, dusty powder to the surface of the liquid, it is immediately and directly sucked into the high-shear zone at the rotating toothed disc by this vortex. The powder does not float idly on the surface, where it could stick to the vessel wall, but is instantly wetted and integrated into the dispersion process. This feature is absolutely essential for a clean, efficient and loss-free laboratory workflow when preparing stock solutions or paint batches. Seamless system integration and scale-up capability The IKA R 1402 Dissolver, like the R 1405 Propeller, is characterised by its intelligent cross-compatibility within the IKA product portfolio. It acts as a versatile mixing head for two completely different high-performance drives. You can operate it on the EUROSTAR 20 high-speed series laboratory stirrers (digital and control), but to do so you must use the R 6000 precision stirring shaft, which acts as an adapter. Alternatively, the tool can be coupled to the powerful T 50 digital dispersing drive, for which the R 50 high-speed stirring shaft is required. Thanks to this modular design, laboratories can switch flexibly between gentle mixing (using the propeller) and aggressive dispersion (using the dissolver) without having to purchase entirely new equipment. With a working range from 0.25 to 30 litres (based on water), this tool is the perfect companion for so-called scale-up. A formulation that you develop in R&D in a small 500-ml beaker can be seamlessly scaled up to a pilot scale of 20 or 30 litres using the same tool, which guarantees the transferability and validity of your process data across different scales. Hygiene and material quality When subjected to heavy-duty, continuous use with abrasive pigments, harsh chemical solvents or aggressive surfactants, a stirring tool must be extremely robust. The IKA R 1402 Dissolver is manufactured entirely from high-quality, corrosion-resistant and durable stainless steel. This premium material not only ensures an outstanding service life for the tool but also minimises unwanted metallic abrasion (contamination) in sensitive samples, which is of the utmost importance for trace analysis. The flow-optimised design of the toothed disc also prevents stubborn build-up of product residues in dead corners. Once the dispersion process is complete, the tool can be easily cleaned without leaving any residue under running water, in an ultrasonic bath or using suitable solvents. This is absolutely essential in strictly regulated quality management systems (such as GMP or GLP in the pharmaceutical industry) to avoid dangerous cross-contamination (carry-over) as far as possible between different sample batches. With this original accessory from IKA, you are investing in maximum process reliability, the highest grinding performance and fully traceable quality in your laboratory. Technical data Tool principle: Dissolver disc (toothed disc) for radial flow Rotor diameter: 42 mm Working range (H₂O volume): 0.25 l to 30 l Main application: Breaking up agglomerates, powder incorporation, high-shear dispersion Compatibility (stirring systems): IKA EUROSTAR 20 high speed digital / control (only in conjunction with R 6000 stirring shaft) Compatibility (dispersers): IKA T 50 digital (only in conjunction with high-speed stirrer shaft R 50) Material: High-quality, chemically resistant and low-wear stainless steel Sterilisability/sterility: No (the tool is non-sterile) Scope of delivery 1 x IKA R 1402 Dissolver (toothed disc, Ø 42 mm) (Important note: The R 1402 dissolver is a mixing head only. Individual requirements & accessories To ensure you can start using this powerful tool straight away, please check your existing system for the correct shaft. For users of the EUROSTAR 20 drive, the R 6000 precision stirring shaft is essential. If you are using the T 50 dispersing drive, please add the R 50 high-speed stirring shaft to your basket. If you have samples that are extremely sensitive to temperature and would overheat due to the high shear forces of the dissolver, we recommend the IKA R 1405 propeller as a gentler alternative. Our procurement service is always available to assist you in configuring your stirring and dispersing system optimally.
