Sustainability as a concept: ‘GREEN’ technology

Climate protection does not stop at the laboratory door. Conventional refrigeration units often use fluorinated greenhouse gases, which will be subject to strict regulations in future. The HRC 2 GREEN control, on the other hand, uses the natural refrigerant R290 (propane). Why is this important? R290 has an extremely low global warming potential (GWP=3), whilst conventional refrigerants often have values in the thousands. This means that this unit is not only environmentally friendly but also future-proof against forthcoming tightening of the F-gas Regulation. But at IKA, sustainability also means efficiency: the speed-controlled compressor and the intelligent fans dynamically adjust their output to the actual cooling requirements. Maximum freedom with the Wireless Controller (WiCo)

Whilst with standard units you always have to stand directly in front of the machine to change parameters, the WiCo gives you freedom. Thanks to the Bluetooth connection, you can detach the control unit and operate the thermostat from a distance of up to 10 metres. This represents a huge gain in safety and convenience, particularly when:

• The thermostat is located in a fume cupboard and the front sash needs to remain closed (for energy efficiency and safety).
• The unit is located in a hard-to-reach spot, such as under a laboratory bench or behind a reactor setup.
• You wish to monitor potentially explosive or toxic processes from a safe distance. The brilliant TFT display shows all relevant process data graphically and allows intuitive navigation through complex temperature profiles.

Precision directly in the medium: connection for an external probe

Unlike the ‘basic’ model, the HRC 2 GREEN control features a socket for an external temperature probe (PT 100, included in the scope of delivery). This is crucial for demanding applications. Normally, a thermostat controls the temperature of the internal bath. However, in external applications (e.g. a double-jacketed reactor), a temperature gradient arises between the thermostat and the reactor contents. Thanks to the external probe, the HRC 2 GREEN control regulates the temperature of your sample directly. The unit automatically compensates for heat loss through the tubing and reaches the target temperature in the reactor with pinpoint accuracy and without overshoot.

High-performance PEEK pump for demanding circuits

At the heart of the liquid circuit is a high-quality pressure and suction pump made from PEEK (polyetheretherketone). This high-performance plastic offers excellent chemical resistance and thermal stability. The pump is speed-controlled, allowing you to precisely adjust the flow rate (up to 21 l/min) and pressure (0.5 bar) to suit your application. This enables both gentle temperature control of sensitive glassware and powerful flow rates in applications with high back pressure.

Safety and ease of maintenance

Safety is IKA’s top priority. The HRC 2 GREEN control complies with the highest safety class III (FL) in accordance with DIN 12876 for operation with flammable liquids. An integrated drain port makes it easy to change the temperature-control fluid without having to tip the heavy unit. The easily accessible air filter can be cleaned without tools, ensuring that cooling performance remains consistently high.

Interfaces for Laboratory 4.0

The unit is ideally equipped for integration into automated laboratory environments. In addition to USB and RS 232 interfaces for control via a PC (e.g. using labworldsoft ®), the thermostat offers the option of saving and running complex temperature ramps and programmes directly on the unit.
