Cooling and heating circulating thermostat with natural refrigerant R290

The IKA HRC 2 GREEN basic (MPN 0020128734) is a compact cooling and heating circulating thermostat for working temperatures from -30 °C to 100 °C. It uses the natural refrigerant R290 (propane), which is not a fluorinated greenhouse gas. According to IKA, the demand-controlled, speed-controlled compressor reduces noise level and operating costs. A continuously adjustable pressure and suction pump supplies the external temperature control circuit. IKA names the unit as a peripheral device for bioreactors and synthesis reactors and for applications in which energy is supplied to or removed from heat exchangers.

Bath, pump and operation

The high-quality insulated bath holds 4 litres (filling volume 1.4 to 4.0 l); up to 2.5 litres of thermal fluid are available for the external circuit without refilling. The speed-controlled PEEK pump delivers up to 21 l/min at 0.5 bar. The integrated filling funnel and the drain valve on the front allow the bath to be emptied through a connected hose without direct contact with the temperature control medium. The stainless steel mesh air filter of the refrigeration unit is reached through the easy-to-open front flap. Working and safety temperatures are shown on LED displays, and a digital fill level indicator is included.

Safety and interfaces

The HRC 2 GREEN basic is classified according to DIN 12876 as class III with the marking FL (for flammable liquids). The safety circuit can be set from 0 to 110 °C, and a screwdriver for this is included. Optical and acoustic warning functions as well as low-level and overlevel protection are provided. IKA lists RS 232 and USB (Micro-USB) as interfaces.
