Anyone who wants to temperature-control several beakers or round-bottom flasks at the same time in the same bath quickly reaches the limits of a small 8 or 9 litre bath. The IKA Compact Immersion Circulator ICC 150 lite pro 20 (0010013221) combines the ICC 150 lite immersion circulator with the largest available stainless steel bath in the series, 20 litres in volume with a bath opening of 292 x 325 millimetres, and covers a working temperature range from room temperature to 150 °C. The large bath offers space for several vessels side by side or for a larger liquid reservoir for externally connected circuits, and is therefore particularly suitable for laboratory workstations where several batches regularly have to be temperature-controlled in parallel.

Generous 20 litre stainless steel bath

With a bath opening of 292 x 325 millimetres and a bath depth of at least 150 millimetres, the IB 20 pro stainless steel bath offers considerably more usable area than the smaller sizes of the series. The larger liquid volume also acts as a thermal buffer: temperature fluctuations caused by immersing cold or warm samples are compensated faster in a large bath than in a small one. The external dimensions of the complete system of circulator head, bath and bath bridge are 354 x 641 x 388 millimetres.

Performance data of the ICC 150 lite circulator head

The circulator head delivers a heating power of 2,000 watts at a working temperature range from room temperature to 150 °C, and with external cooling operating temperatures down to -25 °C can be reached. The temperature stability to DIN 12876 is ±0.05 kelvin, and a PID controller with PT1000 working and safety probes handles the control. The integrated pressure/suction pump reaches a maximum delivery pressure of 0.3 bar, a suction pressure of 0.1 bar and a flow rate of up to 15 litres per minute, sufficient to circulate even the larger liquid volume of the 20 litre bath quickly and evenly, without noticeable temperature differences arising in the edge areas of the bath.

Operation and safety concept

Operation is via a membrane keypad, and the display is an LED display. The adjustable safety circuit ranges from 0 to 160 °C, and visual and audible warning functions as well as low-level protection round off the safety concept. The system is classified to DIN 12876 in safety class III (FL) and is therefore also approved for use with flammable heat transfer fluids in a closed circuit.

Compact circulator head despite large bath

The circulator head itself weighs only 4.7 kilograms at dimensions of 135 x 303 x 180 millimetres and is mounted on the bath via a clamp mounting, the same compact component as in the smaller sizes of the series. The IP 21 protection class and a permissible ambient temperature range of 5 to 40 °C at up to 80 % relative humidity cover the usual laboratory conditions. The device can be connected to a PC via USB and RS 232 and integrated into existing laboratory software.

The same circulator head for the whole series

A practical side effect of the series logic: heating power, pump data, temperature stability and connections of the ICC 150 lite pro 20 are identical to those of the smaller sizes pro 9 and pro 12, as all use the same ICC 150 lite circulator head and differ only in the connected stainless steel bath. Anyone who already uses a smaller size in the laboratory will therefore find their way around the pro 20 immediately, as operation, display and safety functions remain identical. This makes staff training and spare parts stocking easier when several sizes are operated in parallel in the same laboratory.

The large bath and the thermal buffering effect make the ICC 150 lite pro 20 particularly interesting where several samples or larger volumes have to be temperature-controlled at the same time:

• Simultaneous temperature control of several beakers or round-bottom flasks in the same large bath

• Temperature control processes in which samples with a different starting temperature are frequently introduced and a large liquid volume is meant to dampen the temperature fluctuation
