IKA ICC basic eco 18 Immersion Circulator Package, Plastic Bath Size L, up to 100 °C, 8035000

Not every temperature control task in the laboratory needs a stainless steel bath up to 150 degrees Celsius, and for many water bath applications a lighter and more affordable solution is sufficient. The IKA ICC basic eco 18 package (MPN 8035000) combines the ICC basic thermostat with a large-volume plastic bath of size L, which is designed exclusively for operation with water up to 100 degrees Celsius. With a bath opening of 245 x 305 millimetres, the eco bath offers ample space for larger vessels, at a total weight of only 11.93 kilograms for the complete package.

2000 watts heating power, limited to pure water

The thermostat delivers the same 2000 watts of heating power as in the stainless steel bath packages of the pro series, but the plastic bath itself is expressly limited to pure water and a maximum temperature of 100 degrees Celsius. The PID control holds the temperature with a stability of ±0.02 kelvin according to DIN 12876, and the set temperature can be set with an accuracy of ±0.1 kelvin and read off the LED display with 0.1 kelvin resolution.

Plastic bath size L as a light alternative

The IB 18 eco plastic bath has a bath opening of 245 x 305 millimetres at the bottom and a maximum of 286 x 325 millimetres at the upper bath edge, with an immersion depth of 85 to 125 millimetres. Compared with the stainless steel baths of the pro series, the plastic bath is noticeably lighter, which makes transport and installation easier, but with the clear restriction to water as the bath medium and an upper temperature limit of 100 degrees Celsius.

Pump for external circuit operation

The eco package also has the full pressure/suction pump function of the ICC basic thermostat with a flow rate of up to 18 litres per minute at 0 bar back pressure. This means temperature-controlled water can also be passed on with this package to external consumers such as water baths, cold traps or jacketed vessels, provided the upper temperature limit of 100 degrees Celsius is sufficient for the respective application.

Safety according to DIN 12876

The system is classified as DIN 12876 Class III and marked FL for use with flammable liquids, even though the eco version is in practice intended mainly for aqueous media because of the temperature limit. An adjustable safety circuit from 0 to 160 degrees Celsius, visual and audible warning functions and low and high level protection provide additional safe operation. The clamp mounting allows tool-free installation on the bath.

Interfaces and material resistance of the plastic bath

As with the stainless steel bath packages, the interfaces RS 232 and USB are available for PC connection, via which temperature curves can be logged. The restriction of the plastic bath to pure water up to 100 degrees Celsius is not a disadvantage here but a deliberate design: for aqueous applications the eco bath offers a lighter and more cost-effective alternative to the stainless steel bath, without compromises in heating power, control accuracy or pump function. If you regularly also need other bath media or higher temperatures, you should choose a stainless steel bath of the pro series.

Cleaning the plastic bath

The IB 18 eco plastic bath can be cleaned with mild laboratory cleaners suitable for plastic, but should not come into contact with strongly solvent-containing or strongly alkaline cleaning agents, as is generally the case for plastics. Since the bath is supplied without an additional cover, covering it with a separate accessory is recommended during longer periods of non-use to reduce evaporation and contamination by dust. For daily operation with water as the bath medium, the plastic bath is otherwise uncomplicated to handle.

Typical applications

As a large-volume water bath package, the ICC basic eco 18 is suitable for applications where 100 degrees Celsius is sufficient as the upper temperature limit:

• Water baths for enzyme reactions, incubation and other temperature-dependent biological processes
• Thawing and warming processes for samples in routine analysis
• Calibration baths for thermometers in the temperature range up to 100 degrees Celsius
• Practical courses and training where an economical, large-volume water bath is needed
• External temperature control of vessels via the pump connection at moderate temperatures
