Anyone who wants to run the IKA multi-position magnetic stirrer RO 15 with temperature control but does not need a stainless steel version will find a lighter and less expensive alternative in the IKA plastic bath IB R RO 15 eco (MPN 20006341). Like the stainless steel version, the plastic bath with a capacity of 25 litres is designed for the RO 15 stirrer with up to 15 stirring positions for vessels up to 250 millilitres, but works exclusively with water as the bath liquid and is limited to temperatures up to 80 degrees Celsius. For all applications in the aqueous temperature range, this is a practical and material-saving solution, which is particularly worthwhile for laboratories that never work above 80 degrees Celsius anyway.
Lightweight plastic bath instead of stainless steel
With a weight of around 6.675 kilograms, the IB R RO 15 eco is considerably lighter than a comparable stainless steel version and can therefore be moved more easily or taken off the workstation for cleaning. The internal dimensions of 674 x 317 x 98 millimetres offer enough area for the RO 15 stirrer with its 15 positions, and the external dimensions are 722 x 365 x 165 millimetres. The IKA eco series deliberately relies on robust but low-cost plastic for all applications where water is sufficient as the bath medium, and is therefore aimed at laboratories that value an economical overall system. Particularly when equipping several workstations with the same RO 15 set-up, the price difference compared with the stainless steel version becomes clearly noticeable across several baths.
Up to 80 degrees Celsius, with water only
The plastic of the IB R RO 15 eco is approved for temperatures up to a maximum of 80 degrees Celsius and, according to the manufacturer, may only be operated with water as the bath liquid, not with oils or other bath media. For most aqueous applications in the laboratory, such as enzyme reactions, extractions or solubility tests at temperatures well below the boiling point of water, this temperature range is entirely sufficient and noticeably saves on purchase costs compared with the stainless steel version, without any functional disadvantage within this temperature window. It is important to stick consistently to the water requirement, as other bath liquids such as oils attack the plastic and can considerably shorten the service life of the bath.
Compatible with the multi-position stirrer RO 15
Like the stainless steel version, the IB R RO 15 eco is designed for use with the IKA multi-position magnetic stirrer RO 15, which stirs up to 15 vessels, each with a volume of up to 250 millilitres, at the same time. In combination with an IKA immersion circulator, this creates a complete system for temperature-controlled parallel stirring, in which individual components such as bath, stirrer and circulator can be exchanged or supplemented independently of each other as required and according to budget. The stirrer itself drives all 15 magnetic stir bars under the shallow bath synchronously, while the circulator is responsible exclusively for temperature control of the bath water, so that both functions remain cleanly separated from each other.
Placement in the IKA IB series
Within the eco series, the IB R RO 15 eco is the only bath compatible with the multi-position stirrer RO 15, while the other plastic baths such as the IB 18 eco, IB HF 24 eco and IB R 52 eco are designed as classic water baths for individual or a few vessels. Anyone who needs the identical RO 15 set-up with higher temperature resistance up to 130 degrees Celsius will find the matching counterpart in the stainless steel version IB R RO 15 pro, with identical dimensions of the bath opening for the stirrer, so that switching to the higher-grade version is possible without changes to the stirrer or circulator.

Fifteen vessels on a single plate, all rotating at the same speed: That is the task of the IKA RO 15. The multi-position magnetic stirrer without heating accommodates 15 stirring positions on a stainless steel surface measuring 280 x 470 mm, with a spacing of 90 mm between the positions. Each station can hold up to 0.4 l of water, with speeds ranging from 0 to 1200 rpm. According to IKA, the variation between stirring stations is 0 per cent, and batch analyses are carried out under reproducible conditions.One speed for all positionsThe coil drive operates wear-free and silently. According to IKA, the rotational speeds at all stirring points remain constant even under load changes. Settings are adjusted via a membrane keypad in increments of 10 rpm. The direction of rotation can be reversed, an error code display reports faults, and the unit is suitable for continuous operation.
