IKA RC 5 control Recirculating Chiller, 1,400 W Cooling Capacity, down to -30 °C, 0004183000

Product information "IKA RC 5 control Recirculating Chiller, 1,400 W Cooling Capacity, down to -30 °C, 0004183000"

A recirculating chiller extracts process heat from an external circuit, a reactor, a double-jacketed vessel or a viscometer bath, and maintains a constant temperature, whilst the actual unit merely circulates the liquid. The IKA RC 5 control delivers up to 1,400 watts at 20 °C and cools down to minus 30 °C, controlled via an external PT100 sensor with a stability of ±0.1 Kelvin according to DIN 12876.

Cooling capacity decreases with the target temperature

As with any compressor-based chiller, the output decreases the lower the setpoint temperature: 1,400 W at 20 °C, 1,200 W at 10 °C, 950 W at 0 °C, 650 W at minus 10 °C, 450 W at minus 20 °C and still 200 W at minus 30 °C. If you plan your cooling requirements based on the lowest temperature needed, the RC 5 control will still operate in the three-figure watt range even at that temperature. With an external heater, the bath can also be operated up to 80 °C, meaning the working range extends from minus 30 °C right into the heating range. The temperature is shown on a TFT display with a resolution of 0.01 K.

Pump, tank and wireless control

The PEEK pressure and suction pump delivers up to 31 l/min at 0 bar back pressure and can be continuously adjusted to the required flow rate; the connections are M16x1. The insulated 7-litre tank has a filling funnel and a drain valve; the filling volume ranges from 5.0 to 7.0 litres. The unit is operated directly on the housing or via the supplied WiCo wireless controller, which allows control from another point in the laboratory, such as directly at the connected reactor. Ten freely programmable temperature ramps, each with ten steps, automate recurring temperature profiles without the need to re-enter each cycle.

Refrigerant and interfaces

R290 is used as the refrigerant, with a charge of 90 g at a maximum pressure of 21 bar. An RS-232 and a micro-USB interface are available for connection to process control systems or external software, along with a multi-interface featuring an alarm output, a switch output for a solenoid valve and a standby input. The noise level is 61 dB(A), and the degree of protection is IP 21 in accordance with DIN EN 60529.

Compact design

Measuring 310 x 546 x 490 mm (W x H x D) and weighing 37.5 kg, the RC 5 control requires a comparatively small footprint for its cooling capacity. The unit’s power consumption is 1,100 W at 230 V; other voltage variants ranging from 100 to 115 V are available, which are suitable for laboratories with different mains voltages or for use outside Europe.

Individual requirements & service

Those who require less cooling capacity or work with a smaller circuit will also find lower-powered models in IKA’s RC series; the RC 5 control described here, with its 1,400 W output and WiCo control concept, is designed to handle more demanding applications. As an electrical appliance, this unit is subject to the WEEE Directive and, at the end of its life, must not be disposed of with household waste but returned via a specialist retailer or a recycling centre. IKA provides a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty on the RC 5 control; this is extended to 3 years if the unit is registered at ika.com/register within 90 days of purchase. For thermostats and recirculating chillers in the RC and HRC series, IKA also guarantees the availability of spare parts and repairs for at least 10 years. Through our procurement service, we can assist you in selecting accessories such as baths, hoses and valves for your cooling circuit.

IKA MV 1 solenoid valve for cooling water control, 0020003763
IKA MV 1 solenoid valve for cooling water control, 0020003763
Manufacturer number: 0020003763

The MV 1 is a solenoid valve for cooling water control, rated for a maximum of 100 °C and 10 bar. It is connected via M16x1 hose nipples on both sides; the valve is therefore situated in the cooling water circuit between the cooling water source and the system to be cooled. According to IKA’s compatibility list, the valve is fitted as standard on several circulating thermostats and recirculating chillers and is also used on the LR 1000 control system, where it controls the cooling water supply to the reactor vessel and switches the cooling water flow according to the requirements of the reaction control. Weighing 0.6174 kg, it is significantly heavier than the other cover and shaft accessories in the LR 1000 system, which is consistent with its design featuring the two hose connections and the built-in coil. The two hose nipples included in the scope of delivery are suitable for DN 8 hoses, a standard size for cooling water lines in laboratory settings.CompatibilityAccording to IKA’s compatibility information, the MV 1 is compatible with the following devices:LR 1000 control system, ID No. 0025001991IC control, ID No. 0003863000IC control pro 12 c, ID No. 0008040000IC control pro 20 c, ID No. 0008037200HBC 5 control, ID No. 0004127000HBC 10 control, ID No. 0004137000HRC 2 GREEN control, ID No. 0020128746CBC 5 control, ID No. 0004167000RC 5 control, ID No. 0004183000The LR 1000 control system is therefore just one of nine listed devices; the majority of the compatibility list consists of circulating thermostats and recirculating chillers that use the MV 1 to regulate their cooling water circuits. Our current range also includes the related models HRC 2 Lite and RC 2 Green control from the same IKA series; the procurement service carries out a compatibility check for these before an order is placed. With so many different target devices, it is generally advisable to briefly check the identification number on your own type plate before ordering the valve.Technical detailsMax. temperature100 °CMax. pressure10 barConnectionM16x1 hose nipplesWeight0.6174 kgScope of delivery1 x MV 1 solenoid valve2 x DN 8 hose nipplesUnion nutsThe cooling water hose and cooling water connection are not included.Individual requirements and procurement serviceThe MV 1 bracket is required for mounting on the stand rod of the LR 1000 control; it holds the valve securely in place rather than allowing it to hang freely in the hose system. Our procurement service will determine which circulating thermostat or recirculating chiller is compatible with your MV 1, and will assist in putting together the entire cooling water circuit for your laboratory, from selecting the appropriate thermostat to the tubing. Checking the identification number of your own unit before ordering provides additional certainty, particularly given the large number of possible target devices, ranging from reactors to recirculating chillers.

IKA Inkubationsschüttler KS 4000 ic control (mit Kühlung)
IKA KS 4000 ic control Incubating Shaker (with Cooling Coil), 0003510100
Manufacturer number: 0003510100

Anyone who lets cell cultures or microbiological samples shake unattended overnight needs temperature control that also works below room temperature. The IKA KS 4000 ic control combines an orbital shaking motion with PID-controlled heating up to 80 °C and a built-in cooling coil. Together with an externally connected circulation chiller, the 90 litre internal chamber reaches temperatures down to room temperature minus 10 degrees. Without this chiller, the device works as an incubating shaker with heating, entirely without active cooling.PID control from minus 10 to 80 °CTwo PT1000 temperature sensors and an integrated PID controller hold the set temperature with a setting accuracy of 0.1 kelvin. With a vessel containing 0.5 litre of water, 22 degrees room temperature and 37 degrees set temperature, the control accuracy is ±0.5 kelvin and the temperature stability is ±0.05 kelvin. With 0.2 litre of water at 25 degrees room temperature and 37 degrees set temperature, the stability falls to ±0.1 kelvin. Spread over five vessels of 0.5 litre each, the homogeneity in the interior is ±0.5 kelvin. A large LED display shows speed and temperature, and an additional connection socket in the working space takes a further PT1000 sensor, for example the supplied PT 1000.60 made of stainless steel.Cooling coil and external circulation chiller belong togetherThe KS 4000 ic control has no compressor of its own and no refrigerant circuit of its own. The built-in cooling coil needs an externally connected circulation chiller, and IKA names models such as the RC 2 lite, the RC 2 basic or the RC 2 control for this. We also offer the IKA RC 5 control for this purpose, with 1,400 watt cooling capacity down to minus 30 degrees. Without a connected chiller, the temperature range remains limited to room temperature up to 80 degrees. Anyone who knows from the outset that work will only be done above room temperature saves the chiller and chooses the otherwise identical KS 4000 i control (ident no. 0003510000) without a cooling coil.20 kilograms shaking load at 20 millimetre orbitThe orbital motion has a shaking stroke of 20 millimetres and carries up to 20 kilograms of shaking material including attachment. The speed ranges from 10 to 500 revolutions per minute, adjustable in steps of 1 rpm, with a deviation of ±5 rpm. The motor draws 82 watts and delivers 24 watts, designed for a duty cycle of 100 %. The electronic timer covers 0 to 999 hours, optionally in timer or continuous operation, with a 7-segment LED display for the remaining time.Safety and everyday operationIn the event of a fault, the device switches off automatically, and likewise when the hood is opened during operation. The controls have an antimicrobial coating, and a drip tray with a drain hose at the back of the device catches spilled liquid. Via the RS-232 interface, the KS 4000 ic control can be connected to the laboratory device software labworldsoft, for documenting temperature, speed and time. The housing is made of powder-coated sheet steel, the polyester front film.Typical applicationsMicrobiological cultures with a cooling requirement below room temperatureCell cultivation with tight tolerances for temperature stability and homogeneityUnmonitored shaking operation overnight or over the weekendDocumented temperature control via labworldsoft in quality-assured laboratoriesTechnical detailsType of motionorbital, shaking stroke 20 mmPermissible shaking weight (incl. attachment)20 kgSpeed range10 to 500 rpm, steps 1 rpm, deviation ±5 rpmMotor power input / output82 W / 24 WHeating power1,000 WTemperature range (with external circulation chiller)Room temp. -10 °C to 80 °CControl accuracy / stability (0.5 l, 37 °C)±0.5 K / ±0.05 KHomogeneity (5 vessels 0.5 l, 37 °C)±0.5 KTimerelectronic, 0 to 999 h, timer and continuous operationWorking area internal chamber (W x H x D)440 x 440 x 352 mmTotal volume internal chamber90 lHousing material / front filmPowder-coated sheet steel / polyester filmRS 232 interfaceyesIP ratingIP 30 (DIN EN 60529)Dimensions (W x H x D)580 x 520 x 750 mmWeight55 kgConnected load230 V, 50/60 Hz, 1,120 W, fuse 2x T10A 250VScope of delivery1 x KS 4000 ic control1 x PT 1000.60 temperature sensor, stainless steel4 x clamping screws short (for fixing the attachment)2 x clamping screws long (for fixing the attachment)Attachments such as the universal attachment or retaining clips are not included and must be ordered together with the device to suit the application. An external circulation chiller for the cooling function is likewise not part of the scope of delivery.Selection guide and serviceIf you need a smaller internal chamber, the KS 3000 ic control (ident no. 0003940100) offers the same cooling principle with a built-in cooling coil, but only 50 litres of volume, a permissible shaking weight of up to 7.5 kilograms and an additional USB-B interface. IKA grants a manufacturer's warranty of 2 years for the KS 4000, extended to 5 years with registration at ika.com/register within 90 days of purchase. As an electrical device, the KS 4000 ic control falls under the WEEE directive and must not be disposed of with household waste at the end of its life. Via our procurement service, circulation chillers, attachments and further accessories can be ordered together to suit the application.
