The IKA ROCKER 2D basic is a specialised laboratory shaker designed to generate precise, sinusoidal rocking movements at a fixed angle of inclination of 7°. From a kinematic and fluid dynamics perspective, this motion profile serves to induce laminar flow waves within sample vessels, Petri dishes or cell culture flasks. In contrast to orbital shakers, the 2D rocking motion minimises the centrifugal forces generated and reduces the mechanical shear stress on sensitive biological suspensions or adherent cultures. This is essential for the homogeneous mixing of culture media without destabilising cellular integrity.
Metrological consistency and system stability
The instrument is designed for continuous operation at a fixed rotational speed of 30 rpm, ensuring high reproducibility in standard incubation processes, staining and destaining procedures for electrophoresis gels, and in blot hybridisations. The mechanical load limit of 2 kg is supported by a robust drive with high torque stability. The rubber mat supplied acts as a tribological interface which, thanks to a high coefficient of static friction, physically prevents sample vessels from shifting, even at maximum load and with continuous changes in inclination.
