For parallel syntheses with several reaction vessels at the same time, a bath is needed that not only controls the temperature but also offers room for a multi-position magnetic stirrer. The IKA stainless steel bath IB R RO 15 pro (MPN 25007761) is designed for exactly this: a stainless steel bath with a capacity of 25 litres and a very shallow, wide design, specially matched to the IKA multi-position magnetic stirrer RO 15. The designation 15 in the name refers to the up to 15 stirring positions for vessels up to 250 millilitres, not to the bath volume, which is actually 25 litres. Also included in the scope of delivery is a distributor set (PDS.IB.R.RO), which ensures uniform temperature distribution over the entire length of the bath.
Shallow design for combination with the multi-position stirrer
With a usable bath opening of 489 x 313 x 98 millimetres, the IB R RO 15 pro is considerably shallower than classic round baths such as the IB 20 pro or IB 12 pro from the same series. This shallow, wide geometry is necessary so that the RO 15 magnetic stirrer positioned underneath or beside it can drive the stir bars in all 15 vessels at the same time, while the bath itself ensures uniform temperature control of all positions. The external dimensions of 678 x 361 x 355 millimetres also take into account the space required for the circulator technology hung on the bath and for the drive unit of the stirrer underneath.
Stainless steel for temperatures up to 130 degrees Celsius
As a stainless steel version, the IB R RO 15 pro is approved for working temperatures up to 130 degrees Celsius and is therefore suitable for a wider range of bath liquids than the identical-design plastic version IB R RO 15 eco, which is limited to 80 degrees Celsius and pure water. The choice of material makes the bath more robust against longer periods of use at elevated temperature and against a wider range of bath media, for example silicone oils for the upper temperature range. For syntheses that go beyond the aqueous temperature range, the pro version is therefore the more reliable choice. Even with frequent contact with different solvents during cleaning between two test series, stainless steel shows higher resistance and a longer service life than plastic.
Distributor set for uniform temperature across 15 positions
So that all 15 stirring positions actually reach the same temperature and not only the positions closest to the circulator, a distributor set (PDS.IB.R.RO) is supplied with the IB R RO 15 pro. It distributes the volume flow circulated by the immersion circulator in a targeted way over the entire length of the bath, so that temperature differences between the individual vessels are minimised, an important factor when several parallel batches are ultimately to be compared directly with each other. Without such targeted distribution, vessels at the opposite end of such an elongated bath would reach the target temperature noticeably more slowly than the positions close to the circulator, which would impair the validity of the results in parallel comparative experiments.
Placement in the IKA IB series
Within the IB series, the IB R RO 15 pro is the only bath designed specifically for a multi-position stirrer rather than for individual vessels or a pure water bath. For applications without parallel stirring positions, the classic round baths IB 9 pro, IB 12 pro and IB 20 pro with their larger capacity in the same stainless steel version are the more suitable choice. Anyone who wants to realise the same set-up more cost-effectively and in the aqueous temperature range will find the matching plastic version in the IB R RO 15 eco, with identical compatibility with the RO 15 stirrer. Both versions share the same basic geometry, so that an existing RO 15 set-up can be switched from the eco to the pro version if required without changes to the stirrer.

Fits
Fifteen vessels on a single plate, all rotating at the same speed: That is the task of the IKA RO 15. The multi-position magnetic stirrer without heating accommodates 15 stirring positions on a stainless steel surface measuring 280 x 470 mm, with a spacing of 90 mm between the positions. Each station can hold up to 0.4 l of water, with speeds ranging from 0 to 1200 rpm. According to IKA, the variation between stirring stations is 0 per cent, and batch analyses are carried out under reproducible conditions.One speed for all positionsThe coil drive operates wear-free and silently. According to IKA, the rotational speeds at all stirring points remain constant even under load changes. Settings are adjusted via a membrane keypad in increments of 10 rpm. The direction of rotation can be reversed, an error code display reports faults, and the unit is suitable for continuous operation.
