Product information "Kern ABP 300-4AM analytical balance 320 g / 0.0001 g"
The Kern ABP-A is an analytical balance whose glass draught shield has three automatic sliding doors that open and close via a sensor. According to Kern, an ioniser is integrated as standard. Six models weigh up to 320 g. The ABP 200-4AM and ABP 300-4AM read to 0.0001 g, the ABP 100-5AM and ABP 200-5AM to 0.00001 g. The ABP 100-5DAM and ABP 200-5DAM are multi-range balances: they automatically switch between two weighing ranges as the load increases or decreases. All six models have a single-cell weighing system, an OLED display and an internal automatic adjustment.
Automatic sliding doors, memory function and ioniser
The three doors open and close via a sensor. The memory function remembers how far the doors were last open. According to Kern, this prevents contamination and speeds up workflows. If you tap a door lightly, it triggers the push function and opens or closes automatically. According to Kern, the internal draught shield is variably adjustable. On the ABP 100-5AM, 100-5DAM, 200-5AM and 200-5DAM models, it also reduces the impact of air currents in the weighing chamber.
Stabilisation time, adjustment and minimum sample weight
According to Kern, the stabilisation time is 2 s for the models with 0.0001 g and 8 s for the single-range models with 0.00001 g. The multi-range models state both values. The internal automatic adjustment adjusts the balance when the temperature changes by 1 °C or more and additionally every 4 h. This does not replace a calibration certificate, which is available separately (see below). The minimum sample weight can be entered into the instrument or calculated automatically. If a weighing falls below this value, a warning message appears. A high-stability mode and further filter settings are available as a dosing aid.
Formulating, users and data output
When formulating, the balance numbers the mixture components and prints them with number and weight value. Tare and print share one key. Passwords, menu language, user profiles and permissions can be set up for up to 10 users. The permissions determine, for example, who may adjust the balance, change settings or create formulations. Users can also be called up by barcode; without logging in, guest mode applies. Weighing data go to a PC and printer via RS-232 or USB device, and also automatically each time the balance comes to rest. A USB keyboard works at the USB host port for item numbers, formulations and menu navigation. According to Kern, the balance supports data integrity according to U.S. FDA 21 CFR Part 11, for example with weighing result, sample ID, user name and balance ID.
Functions and features
Besides weighing, there are piece counting (minimum unit weight 1 mg under laboratory conditions, 10 mg under standard conditions), percentage determination, density determination, measuring with tolerance range, a hold function with averaging and below-balance weighing. The units are g, mg and ct. The stainless steel weighing pan has a diameter of 91 mm. According to Kern, a multi-function weighing plate is included in the scope of delivery of the ABP 100-5AM, 100-5DAM, 200-5AM and 200-5DAM. It holds overhanging samples, sample paper, PCR tubes or microcentrifuge tubes in place and reduces the influence of air currents.
Typical applications
- Laboratory applications: weighing in samples and formulation components with a numbered printout
- Plastics engineering: weighing with tolerance range and density determination
- Time-based recording: output of value, date and time and automatic data output after standstill
The models with 0.0001 g (ABP 200-4AM, ABP 300-4AM) are sufficient when 0.1 mg is enough. Their minimum load is 0.01 g. Anyone who regularly weighs in portions below 10 mg will choose a model with 0.00001 g, where the minimum load is 0.001 g. The multi-range models suit varying portions: the ABP 100-5DAM weighs up to 52 g with a readability of 0.00001 g and up to 120 g with a readability of 0.0001 g, the ABP 200-5DAM up to 102 g with a readability of 0.00001 g and up to 220 g with a readability of 0.0001 g.

Conformity assessment and calibration
All models have the verification value e = 0.001 g and accuracy class I. A conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU) is optional (item no. 965-201). It can only be ordered ex works together with the balance; according to Kern, a subsequent conformity assessment is not possible. Anyone who uses the balance in applications subject to mandatory verification should therefore order it at the same time. Kern needs the full address of the installation site for this. A DAkkS calibration certificate (item no. 963-101) can be ordered separately. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.
