The Kern CCS is a counting system comprising a reference balance from the CFS series and a quantity platform. The reference balance weighs the individual part very finely, the platform the large quantity, and the system calculates the number of pieces from this. Twenty models cover quantity platforms from 6 kg to 3,000 kg, from the table platform measuring 230 x 230 mm to the weighing bridge measuring 1,500 x 1,500 mm. The display shows up to 999,999 counted items. The counting resolution ranges from 300,000 to 30,000,000 depending on the model; the minimum unit weight under laboratory conditions ranges from 5 mg to 100 mg.
Reference balances and platforms
There are three reference balances. The CFS 300-3 (300 g, readability 1 mg) is built into the CCS 6K-6 and CCS 10K-6 models and counts parts from 5 mg. The CFS 3K-5 (3 kg, 10 mg) works in the models with 0.01 in the name and counts parts from 50 mg. The CFS 6K0.1 (6 kg, 100 mg) belongs to the remaining models and counts parts from 100 mg. For the platforms, Kern distinguishes three designs: KFP table platforms with a stainless steel weighing plate (6 kg to 300 kg), KIP weighing bridges made of steel chequer plate (600 kg to 3,000 kg) and the KFU U-shaped weighing bridge for pallet loads (CCS 1T-1U). The CCS 1T-1L has a large KFP platform measuring 1,500 x 1,250 mm.
Operation and functions
Three displays show the weight, reference weight and total number of items. The reference quantity and a known reference weight can be entered via the keypad. The automatic reference optimisation gradually improves the average value of the unit weight. The memory (PLU) can store 100 items with additional text, reference weight and tare weight, such as that of a container. The fill-to-target function works with a programmable target piece count or target weight; reaching it is indicated by an audible and visual signal. In addition there are the PRE-TARE function, a totals memory and a conversion function.
Connection and power supply
RS-232 is fitted as standard. The platform is connected to the reference balance by a cable, 3 m for the table platforms and 5 m for the weighing bridges. The plug-in mains adaptor (220 V to 240 V AC, 50 Hz, device 12 V, 500 mA) is supplied with adaptors for EU, UK, US and CH. A lead-acid rechargeable battery (GAB-A04) is available as an accessory and takes 12 h to charge. The display is protected to IP23; the platform and load cell of the table models are protected to IP65. The ambient temperature may be between 0 °C and 40 °C, and the relative humidity up to 80 %.

Warranty
According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
