Product information "Kern compact laboratory balance PCB 1000-2, 1,200 g / 0.01 g, KUP interface"
The Kern PCB 1000-2 is a compact laboratory balance from Kern’s IoT range, designed for a readability of 0.01 grams. According to Kern, the weighing range extends up to 1,200 g. It operates as a single-range balance with a strain gauge system, and the resolution is 120,000 divisions.
Accuracy and weighing technology
Reproducibility and readability are both 0.01 grams, whilst linearity is ± 0.03 grams. Once the sample is placed on the balance, the reading stabilises within 3 seconds. According to Kern, a minimum sample weight of 20 grams is sufficient to achieve a measurement uncertainty of 0.1 % at k=2. The maximum creep is 100 milligrams after 15 minutes and 200 milligrams after 30 minutes.
External adjustment
The PCB 1000-2 is adjusted externally at a selectable adjustment point (300 grams, 600 grams or 1.2 kilograms). Kern recommends adjustment weights of 200 grams (F2) and 1 kilogram (F2).
KUP interface for Industry 4.0
As standard, the balance features a KUP (KERN Universal Port) connection. Using KUP adaptors, it can be expanded to include RS-232, USB device, Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth BLE; with the KUP-13 expansion box, up to three adaptors can be used simultaneously. This allows the PCB 1000-2 to be connected to networks and data acquisition systems.
Housing, weighing pan and display
The housing measures 163 x 245 x 65 millimetres and is made of plastic; the weighing pan, with a side length of 130 x 130 millimetres, is made of stainless steel. The backlit LCD display shows digits 21 millimetres high. The scale has a net weight of 1.2 kilograms. The permissible ambient temperature ranges from -10 °C to 40 °C.
Battery operation
If required, the PCB 1000-2 can be powered by four AA batteries (1.5 volts); the batteries are not included in the scope of delivery. In battery mode, the scale has a battery life of up to 20 hours, whilst an auto-off function saves additional energy.
Typical applications
Kern lists the following applications for the PCB 1000-2:
- Laboratory applications
- Educational institutions
- Research and development
- Industrial applications
Regulatory information
As an electrical device, the balance falls under the ElektroG. The manufacturer Kern & Sohn GmbH is registered under the WEEE registration number DE 80821200. How to return old appliances is described on the page Environment and disposal.
