Kern DIS 50-4 moisture analyser 50 g / 0.0001 g, up to 175 °C

The Kern DIS is available in four models, which differ in two respects: the weighing range and the temperature range. The DIS 50-4 weighs up to 50 g to an accuracy of 0.0001 g (0.1 mg), whilst the DIS 100-3 weighs up to 120 g to an accuracy of 0.001 g (1 mg). The two standard models heat from 30 °C to 175 °C, whilst the HT models, the DIS 50-4HT and DIS 100-3HT, heat up to 250 °C, in 1 °C increments in each case. The heat is provided by a 400 W halogen quartz glass heater.

Which model is suitable?

For small samples, the DIS 50-4 is the more accurate choice. For a 2 g initial weight, the data sheet specifies a reproducibility of 0.05 %; for the DIS 100-3, this figure is 0.1 %. The DIS 100-3, on the other hand, can weigh up to 120 g. The HT version is designed for samples that are to be dried at temperatures above 175 °C. According to Kern, the extended temperature range allows for adaptation to different material properties and reduces the measurement time for samples with stable temperatures.

Operation in three steps

The measurement process consists of three steps: taring, adding the sample, and starting. The backlit graphic LCD (digit height 15 mm) displays the drying curve in real time; the last measured value remains on display until the next measurement. The HT models also feature a configurable display: the result can be shown as either moisture content, dry weight, ATRO value or residual weight, and the digit display, contrast and backlighting are adjustable. Password protection prevents stored settings and data from being altered.

Heating profiles, memory and log

There are four heating profiles to choose from: standard drying, rapid drying, gentle drying and step drying. Up to 40 drying programmes can be stored. Drying ends automatically, by timer or manually.

The instrument stores up to 1,000 measurement results and up to 1,000 freely programmable sample names, which are printed on the measurement report. Date and time are included as standard. Data is transferred to a PC or printer via RS-232 or USB; the GLP/ISO report is an instrument function for printing, not an external certification. The weighing system, which features electromagnetic force compensation, is equipped with overload protection.

Installation

The instrument measures 211 x 342 x 187 mm (W x D x H) and weighs approx. 5.0 kg. It is designed for ambient temperatures of 15 °C to 30 °C and relative humidity of 25 % to 85 %. The power supply is built-in (230 V AC, 50 Hz); connection is via an IEC power cable. The balance is adjusted using an external weight.

Calibration

A DAkkS calibration certificate (item no. 963-127) can be ordered separately. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate. A factory calibration certificate (item no. 964-305) is available for temperature. The temperature calibration points are 100 °C and 175 °C; for the HT models, they are 25 °C, 100 °C and 250 °C.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
