Kern FGE 10K-3 kitchen balance 15 kg / 1 g

The Kern FGE is a slimline kitchen balance designed for use in catering, canteens, dietetics and educational settings. It is only 15 mm (FGE 5K-3) or 22 mm (FGE 10K-3) high, stands on rubber feet and is operated using one or two keys. The readability is 1 g for all models. There are two weighing ranges to choose from: 5 kg with an acrylic plate and 15 kg with safety glass. Both are available as a single balance and as a set of 5; the batteries are included.

5 kg or 15 kg

The FGE 5K-3 weighs up to 5 kg on an acrylic plate measuring 152 x 230 mm; the housing measures 152 x 230 x 15 mm and the balance weighs 0.35 kg. The FGE 10K-3 weighs up to 15 kg despite the 10 in its name. Its safety glass weighing pan measures 272 x 205 mm, the housing measures 272 x 250 x 22 mm, and it weighs 0.5 kg. The FGE 5K-3 has a backlit LCD with 18 mm digits, whilst the FGE 10K-3 has a backlit LED segment display with 22 mm digits.

Taring when working with a recipe

Taring is done with one keystroke. This allows a bowl to be tared before weighing in, and after each ingredient you can tare again to weigh the next ingredient to the recipe weight without calculating. The units are switchable: the FGE 10K-3 displays g, oz, ml and lb:oz, whilst the FGE 5K-3 displays g, ml, lb:oz and fl.oz. An auto-off function switches the balance off after 120 s and spares the battery.

Batteries

The FGE 10K-3 runs on three AAA batteries (1.5 V) and, according to Kern, has a battery life of up to 25 h. The FGE 5K-3 runs on two CR2032 button cells and has a battery life of up to 13 h. The batteries are included in the scope of delivery. The humidity may be up to 80 %.

Single balance or set of 5

The FGE 5K-3S05 and FGE 10K-3S05 models are supplied as a set of 5; the price applies to all five balances and individual delivery is not possible for these models. Technically, they correspond to the individual models FGE 5K-3 and FGE 10K-3. Each balance comes in individual design packaging. Sets are suitable, for example, for kitchen workstations, training rooms and canteens with multiple serving points.

Calibration

A DAkkS calibration certificate can be ordered separately: item no. 963-127 for FGE 5K-3, item no. 963-127S05 for the set of 5 FGE 5K-3S05, item no. 963-128 for FGE 10K-3 and item no. 963-128S05 for the set of 5 FGE 10K-3S05. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 2-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
