Product information "Kern FPB 30K-2M bench balance 30 kg / 10 g"
The Kern FPB is a bench balance with an IP68/IP69K protection rating for hygienic areas and harsh environments. The housing is made of stainless steel and plastic; the stainless steel weighing plate measures 190 x 230 mm and, according to Kern, can be cleaned easily and hygienically. Eight models weigh from 3 kg to 30 kg. A rechargeable battery and the power supply are included, so the balance remains in operation even while charging. When weighing with a tolerance range, the display colour indicates whether the item being weighed is too light, within the tolerance range or too heavy.
Water protection
The FPB is protected to IP68 and IP69K as a complete unit; the load cell is made of aluminium. Kern describes the degree of protection as dust and splash protection and recommends the balance for harsh environmental conditions. The ambient temperature may be between -10 °C and 40 °C and the humidity between 5 % and 85 %.
Eight models in two versions
Four models are pure weighing instruments: FPB 3K-4 (3 kg at 0.2 g), FPB 6K-3 (6 kg at 0.5 g), FPB 15K-3 (15 kg at 1 g) and FPB 30K-3 (30 kg at 2 g). The other four models have an M in their name and are intended for conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU): FPB 3K-3M, FPB 6K-3M, FPB 15K-3M and FPB 30K-2M. For these models, the readability corresponds to the verification value, the resolution is 3,000 steps, and they display kg, g and PCS. The models without an M also display lb, oz and lb:oz.
Counting, checking, saving energy
When counting items, the reference quantities of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 are available to choose from, and the calculated unit weight can be saved. The minimum unit weight is specified in the model table. The sleep function switches the balance to energy-saving mode after a configurable period of inactivity; the automatic switch-off time is also adjustable. The balance is operated using four keys; the menu is in English. The LCD has 25 mm high digits and a backlight.
Rechargeable battery and power supply
The Li-ion rechargeable battery has 3.7 V and 4,000 mAh (14.8 Wh) and is enclosed with the balance, not connected. According to the data sheet, it takes 4 h to charge. Kern states an operating time of up to 500 h without backlighting and 400 h with backlighting. The plug-in mains adaptor with USB connection (100 V to 240 V, 50/60 Hz) is supplied with an adaptor for EU. The balance weighs around 2.2 kg.

Conformity assessment and calibration
For the 3K-3M, 6K-3M, 15K-3M and 30K-2M, a conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU) is available as an option: item no. 965-227 for FPB 3K-3M, item no. 965-228 for FPB 6K-3M, FPB 15K-3M and FPB 30K-2M. It can only be ordered ex works together with the balance; according to Kern, a subsequent conformity assessment is not possible. To place an order, Kern needs the full address of the installation site. A DAkkS calibration certificate can be ordered separately: item no. 963-127 for FPB 3K-4 and FPB 3K-3M, item no. 963-128 for FPB 6K-3, FPB 6K-3M, FPB 15K-3, FPB 15K-3M, FPB 30K-3 and FPB 30K-2M. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.
Warranty
According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 2-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
