The Kern FPE is a compact bench balance with a stainless steel weighing plate, designed for use in kitchens, food processing, dietetics and education. Eight models weigh from 3 kg to 30 kg. The weighing plate measures 190 x 230 mm and, according to Kern, can be cleaned easily and hygienically. The balance weighs just 1.8 kg. Kern does not specify an IP rating for this series.
Weighing with a visual signal
When weighing with a tolerance range, a visual signal supports portioning, dosing and sorting. When counting items, you can select a reference quantity of 10, 20, 50, 100 or 200; the calculated unit weight can be saved. The minimum unit weight for each model is listed in the model table. After a configurable period of inactivity, the balance switches to energy-saving mode (sleep function). The backlit LCD has 25 mm high digits; the menu is in English, and the balance is operated using four keys.
Which model
The FPE 3K-4, with 3 kg at 0.2 g, is suitable for fine portions, and the FPE 6K-3, with 0.5 g, for quantities up to 6 kg. The FPE 15K-3 and FPE 30K-3 models weigh 15 kg with a readability of 1 g and 30 kg with a readability of 2 g. The four models with M in their name (FPE 3K-3M, 6K-3M, 15K-3M and 30K-2M) are intended for conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU). Their readability corresponds to the verification value, and the resolution is 3,000 steps. The units are kg, g and PCS; the models without an M also display lb, oz and lb:oz.
Power supply
The scope of delivery includes a plug-in mains adaptor with USB port (100 V to 240 V, 50/60 Hz) with an adaptor for EU. The YKR-07-A Li-ion rechargeable battery (3.7 V, 4,000 mAh) is available as an accessory. According to the data sheet, the balance charges in 4 h with it and runs for up to 400 h with and 500 h without backlight. The ambient temperature may be between -10 °C and 40 °C and the humidity between 5 % and 85 %.

Conformity assessment and calibration
The conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU) is available as an option for the 3K-3M, 6K-3M, 15K-3M and 30K-2M: item no. 965-227 for FPE 3K-3M, item no. 965-228 for FPE 6K-3M, FPE 15K-3M and FPE 30K-2M. According to Kern, it is only possible ex works; a subsequent conformity assessment is not possible. Kern needs the full address of the installation site for this. A DAkkS calibration certificate can be ordered separately for all models: item no. 963-127 for FPE 3K-4 and FPE 3K-3M, item no. 963-128 for FPE 6K-3, FPE 6K-3M, FPE 15K-3, FPE 15K-3M, FPE 30K-3 and FPE 30K-2M. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.
Warranty
According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 2-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
