Kern OBE 132 transmitted-light microscope, binocular, 40x-1,000x, 3W LED, achromatic

Product information "Kern OBE 132 transmitted-light microscope, binocular, 40x-1,000x, 3W LED, achromatic"

The Kern OBE 132 is a binocular transmitted-light microscope for use in secondary schools, vocational schools and training centres, and for routine applications in the laboratory. It belongs to the OBE 13 series. With four achromatic objectives (4x, 10x, 40x and 100x) and HWF 10x eyepieces, it offers a total magnification range of 40x to 1,000x. The illumination is a dimmable 3 W LED.

Butterfly tube and ergonomics

The binocular head is designed as a butterfly tube. It is inclined at 30° and can be rotated through 360°, and the interpupillary distance can be set between 48 and 75 mm. The dioptre adjustment is on one side only. The HWF 10x eyepieces have a diameter of 18 mm, a high eye point and an anti-fungus coating. The OBE 132 does not have a third tube port for a camera.

Optics and illumination

The four objectives are mounted on a four-position revolver. The 40x and 100x objectives are spring-loaded; the 100x objective is designed for oil immersion and requires immersion oil. The 3 W LED for transmitted light is continuously dimmable. The Abbe condenser with an aperture of 1.25 has an aperture diaphragm; it is height-adjustable and permanently mounted.

Mechanical stage and focusing

The mechanical stage has a travel range of 50 x 70 mm. Focusing is carried out via a coaxial coarse and fine adjustment on both sides, with the fine adjustment moving in steps of a minimum of 0.002 mm. The instrument measures 360 x 150 x 320 mm and weighs 4.6 kg net.

Power supply

The microscope operates with a mains adaptor for 100 to 240 V at 50/60 Hz and 0.3 A; the protection class is III. The permissible storage temperature is between -5 and 40 °C.

Typical applications

Kern describes the OBE 132 as an all-round transmitted-light microscope for schools, training and laboratories:

  • Biology and science lessons in secondary schools
  • Training at vocational schools and training centres
  • Routine examination of stained specimens in the laboratory
  • Examination of bacteria and blood smears with the 100x oil immersion objective

Regulatory information

As an electrical device, the microscope falls under the ElektroG. The manufacturer Kern & Sohn GmbH is registered under the WEEE registration number DE 80821200. How to return old appliances is described on the page Environment and disposal.
