The Kern OZL-S range comprises nine digital microscope sets, each consisting of a trinocular stereo zoom microscope from the OZL-46 series and a permanently mounted camera. According to Kern, the appropriate C-Mount adapter is included in the delivery. The model number indicates the combination: OZL 466C832 is the OZL 466 with the ODC 832 C-Mount camera, while OZL 468T241 is the OZL 468 with the ODC 241 tablet camera. All sets have a zoom range of 0.7x to 4.5x, HWF 10x eyepieces, and LED incident light and LED transmitted light.
Three microscopes
The OZL 464 and the OZL 466 are mounted on a column stand. According to the brochure, the OZL 466 also features an LED ring light in the objective housing and an LED transmitted light unit. The OZL 468 features a mechanical stand with an integrated handle and, according to Kern, has been developed for use in schools and workshops. The head is trinocular on all models, tilted at 45° and rotatable through 360°. The interpupillary distance ranges from 55 to 75 mm, and dioptre adjustment is available on both sides. The field of view measures 4.4 to 28.6 mm, the working distance is 105 mm, and the maximum specimen height is 140 mm. The incident and transmitted light sources are each 3 W LEDs.
Three cameras
The ODC 825 and ODC 832 are C-Mount cameras with 5.1 MP and a 1/2.5-inch CMOS sensor. The ODC 825 operates via USB 2.0 at 6.8 to 55 frames per second, while the ODC 832 operates via USB 3.0 at 14.2 to 101.2 frames per second. Power is supplied via the USB cable. Image output and analysis are carried out on a PC using the free VIS 2.0 PRO or VIS 2.0 LITE software for Windows. According to Kern, both cameras are also suitable for dark field, phase contrast and fluorescence microscopy.
The ODC 241 is a tablet camera with a 5 MP sensor (Sony CMOS, 1/2.8 inch) and a 9.7-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels. It runs on Android, has 128 GB of storage, and features Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, HDMI and a microSD card slot. Kern has developed it for the simple and direct examination of samples on screen and recommends it for school pupils and students in training, as well as for laboratory demonstrations. It saves images and videos to a USB stick or SD card, measures distances, areas and angles, counts manually and outputs the live image via HDMI.
Dimensions and current
The sets with a C-Mount camera measure 300 x 240 x 490 mm and have a net weight of approx. 5.0 kg. The sets with a tablet camera measure 300 x 240 x 640 mm and weigh approximately 6 kg. The microscope’s power supply is built-in and operates at 100 to 240 V; it is connected via a power cable with a Euro plug.

Warranty
According to Kern & Sohn, these sets come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
